Welcome back, Weekend Writing Warriors. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!! I’m glad you’re back for this week. It was excited to introduce you to the love of Jacob’s life, Renae. He is still in an awkward predicament though. At this point they are estranged. If you have followed this snippet string, you can probably understand how he got himself into this situation.
But now he is meeting with her as a new person, his life has changed. Will she accept the new Jacob? Will Jacob be able to maintain this change and not slip back into his old ways? Well, that is getting far beyond what eight sentences can tell us. Let us get through this first meeting.
We left Jacob sitting with his wife, full of regret of his past treatment of her.
—
He cursed himself mentally for all the stupid, thoughtless things he’d said to her; things that hurt, things that demeaned, things that crushed her spirit.
She walked toward the diner alone. True to her word, she hadn’t brought Michael.
The Five Barred Gate Synopsis:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Non-Offensive Movement in the United States became federal law? What would happen to the freedoms guaranteed to us through the Constitution? This is the story of Jacob Andrews. He is faced with the decision to follow his heart and disregard what the law says about how he should live; even if it means his life.
Snippet:
In a way Jacob was relieved. He needed to mend things with Renae before adding Michael to the mix.
Renae walked through the door to the truck stop looking like an angel. She wore a black skirt with a red floral design and a black blouse that accentuated her figure. The wind wafted through her auburn hair, teasing it into her face and getting it tangled in her sunglasses.
She is breathtaking.
Renae paused at the entrance, lifted her sunglasses, and looked around. She spotted Jacob and walked toward his table, but her expression never changed; if she was glad to see him, he couldn’t tell.
There is nothing, I mean nothing like watching the woman in your life walk. It is something we take for granted men. And we never realize what we got until something jeopardizes that relationship and it begins to slip away or until it’s gone. But what for Jacob? Well, here, its still too early to tell. But if looks could kill, he would not be doing so well.
Tune in next week to see how this plays out for him… and by all means take a longer glance at your significant other than you normally do this week. Enjoy the gift God has given you.
What better day than Mother’s Day to appreciate the woman who is in your life… just don’t forget the one who gave you life. I know visiting is difficult right now with all that’s going on. But give her a call, especially if you are in an area where visiting is out of the question.

She’s playing it cool so he can’t read her. I’m interested in seeing what he has to say.

Should be pretty interesting. A little bit of backstory though. They have been separated for some time, so yes, this meeting should be interesting.

Is she trying to appear nonchalant or does she really not care deeply? It’ll be interesting to find out.

Her care is on multiple levels, as we will see in this exchange. Although they have been separated, love is not a switch. But there is more going on than meets the eye…

Love how you describe the fine details of her appearance. It’s easy to see how much he cares for her, but is that reciprocated? Great work!

His change has allowed him to really slow down and see Renae through fresh eyes. To remember the woman he fell in love with. But is it too late, let’s see next week.

Thank you. Jacob has a new perspective on life, and is able to see his wife again the way he did when he was younger. But is it too late?

Nice description. He’s got lots of work to do to get back on her good side!

Yes, he does. And if you remember past snippets, he may have someone working against him too. Stay tuned.

Vivid descriptive details in today’s snippet! I like the way the reader can’t tell how the woman is going to react to their meeting…

She has a lot going on in her head, as we will see next week… well, we will get a glimpse of what’s going on at least. 🙂

There is so much riding on this meeting. I hope she gives him a chance. It’s smart to leave Michael out of this for now… Good writing, Jeff!

We will see next week. With the relaxed rules, I can include a bit more than what I had intended to. It still may take two more weeks to get through this meeting, but it will be an adventure getting there.

Dagnabbit. Did it again. Forgot to add this: we just relaxed the rules on wewriwa. I wrote about it on my 8sunday post this week. Participants will no longer have to change punctuation or write run-on sentences to stay within wewriwa guidelines.

Great details. I hope she doesn’t freeze him out.

Not necessarily freeze him out, but she sure isn’t giving him the warmth he is expecting though.

Interesting set up. I’m curious to know more of the backstory.

Within this storyline, Jacob is separated from his wife. He has been through a few changes since he last saw her. She is unaware of these changes. (some of these changes are noted in past snippets you can read through them in my blog or past WeWriWa posts) She is also under some assumptions of her own, but the reader is not aware of this at this point… 😮 … did I just give a spoiler?
