Moments for the Heart

Welcome back Weekend Writing Warriors for another snippet of The Five Barred Gate!! So, what’s in the box? That is the big question that is on everyone’s mind. No its not Jack, or tacos for that matter. And no, its not tuna or kitty litter… sorry Effing. What it could be may help our small group out with their Edwards situation.

Jacob has brought a delivery to the group and he has expressed his concern for Renae, his estranged wife’s, safety. He has had a conversation with her about something she has recently discovered about her new relationship and Edwards. This leads us to this week’s snippet.

Here is where we left off:

“What I’ve seen is good enough for me,” said Eric. “Feel free to bring her by anytime. But be careful.”

“Always,” Jacob said. “Speaking of caution, I assume that’s what these are for?” Jacob handed Roger the box he brought in.

The Five Barred Gate Synopsis:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Non-Offensive Movement in the United States became federal law? What would happen to the freedoms guaranteed to us through the Constitution? This is the story of Jacob Andrews. He is faced with the decision to follow his heart and disregard what the law says about how he should live; even if it means his life.

SNIPPET: (with new relaxed additions so I don’t disrupt the flow)
“Ah, I was hoping they came in,” Roger said snapping open his utility knife.

“Car charger adapters?” Jacob laughed.

“Well, listing them as cell phone bug detectors on the invoice didn’t seem prudent to me,” Roger said. He opened the box and pulled out six identical smaller boxes. “One for each of us.”

“But there are only five of us,” Jacob said, realizing Will would not need one now.

“One is for Renae,” Eric said.

Jacob raised and eyebrow, “How did you know?”

“The other day at Maggie’s. I’m not blind, Jacob. It was obvious she was authentically fearful. You confirmed her innocence. It was only a matter of time before she discover the truth. To be honest, I’m glad she found out sooner than later. Now we can work with her, instead of trying to work around her.”

“You don’t have to worry about her,” Jacob vouched for his wife. “You’re right; she is just as afraid as we are.”

Well, now our friends can stay a step ahead of Edwards and his goons. Let’s hope it pays off for them. We exit this portion of The Five Barred Gate. Even though this snippet does leave on huge question on the table. I am moving a few chapters into the future next week.
