Moments for the Heart

Welcome Back Weekend Writing Warriors!! Well, here we are starting a new adventure. This new novel is a bit darker than anything I have ever written. I am roughly seven chapters into it and a bit stalled out. I normally do my novel writing toward the end of the year during NaNoWriMo. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with my procrastination, but in any case I haven’t touched this work in about a month.

With dishing out as much from The Five Barred Gate as I am willing to give, I have decided to give y’all a taste of this unedited, untitled, unfinished piece. I am not really sure of where it is going, but I do know where I am at.

Since there is so little of it, I will just start off on page one. I hope you enjoy…

SYNOPSIS:
Lieutenant Daniel Masters is a 27-year veteran Savannah Georgia Major Crimes Detective. He has seen many crime scenes like the one he saw last February. Little did he know this one would change his life. Grady, the newest addition to his team, is the first to see the abnormalities, but will the rest of the team listen in time. There is a serial murder on the loose in South Georgia, and for some reason the killer leaves their final victim alive right before committing suicide. But why? Masters and Grady must find out before its too late and the next killer strikes again.

CHAPTER ONE
Saturday, February 10, 2020 — 10:10PM

“So, we got his name yet?” Lt. Daniel Masters asked the detective on scene.

“No, he wasn’t carrying any identification, but he has prison tatts. So it shouldn’t be too hard,” he said lowering the sheet over the body with six bullet holes, center mass. “What do you suppose he was thinking? I mean suicide by cop? I don’t understand.”

“Sometimes these perps just don’t like it on the outside, they lose it. Or…” he trailed off as the ambulance drove off with the survivor, “he just picked the wrong time to commit the crime.”

“At least they were able to save Mr. Nelson,” said the detective, he was now at the window, nodding over to the lights disappearing into the distance.

***Well Mighty Warriors that is this week’s snippet. Here is a bit more because I’m in the mood.***

“What do we know? Is it connected?” Lt. Masters looked over the scene he had seen before. He scratched the salt and peppered stubble on his chin. The patterns all matched up in his mind. He knew it even before he was told.

“I’m no forensic, but I would have to say so, probably all the way down to the weapon used,” the detective said. “Sorry, where are my manners. The name’s Lawson.”

“Lawson. I’m Daniel Masters. I’ve seen this guy’s work before. This is the third victim so far. All within the last six months. I would have to agree, same MO. My only question is with the perp now on a slab, where’s the weapon?”

Lawson had a perplexed look on his face, obviously without an answer.

“Well, Lawson, go find me that weapon.”

Lawson disappeared to confer with the first officers on scene.

I may have went a bit overboard there, even with the relaxed standards, but with introducing a new novel, I got a bit excited. But there is no novel to point you to to find out more. Just next weeks continuance. I hope you enjoyed this first look at my untitled work in progress. Hope to see you back next week for more.
