Weekend Writing Warriors 8 – 8/16/2020 – Untitled WIP

Welcome Back Weekend Writing Warriors. I must start off this week with a little bit of a plug on my new novel Little Reminders of Who I Am. I gave y’all several snippets not to long ago as well as a link to a excerpt. Now the novel is available to purchase on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. It is available in hardbound, paperback, and eBook.

This is my second novel, The Five Barred Gate being my first, and you are getting the taste of my third as we speak. If you are a fan of love stories, this one is for you. It has all the elements of a Hallmark movie, so that is the crowd who will adore this book.

Getting back to business. Last week we left Detective Grady doing his best to make a good… second impression on his new boss and partner Lieutenant Daniel Masters. After missing his phone call and finally connecting, he has rushed to the scene of the crime Masters is at.

Here is where we left off:

“Don’t take it,” Masters said taking the cup, removing the lid and sipping it.

That’s a good gesture, Grady told himself. “Sorry, I didn’t realize I lived so far from here.”

Masters sipped his coffee again as if he didn’t hear. He sat up from the car and walked toward the building, “Follow me.”

SYNOPSIS:
Lieutenant Daniel Masters is a 27-year veteran Savannah Georgia Major Crimes Detective. He has seen many crime scenes like the one he saw last February. Little did he know this one would change his life. Grady, the newest addition to his team, is the first to see the abnormalities, but will the rest of the team listen in time. There is a serial murder on the loose in South Georgia, and for some reason the killer leaves their final victim alive right before committing suicide. But why? Masters and Grady must find out before its too late and the next killer strikes again.

SNIPPET:
Grady took a quick drag on his coffee and did as he was told. The air was cold with the deep chill of winter. A front had blown in the day before and the winds had just settled that afternoon. The clear night meant a frost was almost guaranteed. He had hoped the coffee would show his new partner that he was thinking of these things. Masters hadn’t yelled, that was a good thing, but the night was still young.

Masters entered the building first, there were two officers at the door one of them was at attention like he was guarding Buckingham Palace. Masters noticed as well, “At ease soldier, no one is going to bite. Lawson inside?”

***Well Fellow Warriors that is this week’s snippet. But we cant leave the scene hanging there, so here is a bit more to finish out the scene.***

“Yes, sir. Finishing up his report with the two who shot the perpetrator,” he said.

“Thank you, officer,” Masters said, then slapping him on the arm, “as you were.”

Guess he does have a sense of humor, Grady thought following close behind.

“I’m with him,” Grady said with a slight chuckle, but got no response.

Maybe the coffee did loosen up Masters a bit. Although he has only said two words to Grady. We did get a little bit more info on the scene we are about to enter. Some of you asked about how we knew it was suicide by cop, now we have our answer. More to come…

Thanks for reading this week. I look forward to bringing you more next Snippet Sunday.

    1. This is turning out to be one of the most detailed books I have ever written. I am struggling with it because of the details. Especially when we get to the nitty-gritty of it.

  1. Nothing like a good detective story! These fellows seem hard-boiled yet compassionate.
I’ve kind of been in and out of participating this year too. Too much going on!

    1. Yes. I have always wanted to write one. And this is, yes, based on a dream I had. If you are unfamiliar with my work, most of my writing is based on dreams. The Five Barred Gate, Little Reminders of Who I Am, and this work in progress, all dreams. Glad to have you here checking this snippet out.

  2. Their personalities come through very clearly. I enjoyed seeing this side of Masters. Also, I’m with Julie.. boo winter lol. I live in a province which gets so cold my face hurts. Not looking forward to it. I can’t wait until we reach the crime seen!

    1. Well, being in South Texas, we don’t know what winter is. We are lucky to get one or two cold spells a year, so writing scenes like this is as close as I get sometimes. 😀 😀 😀

  3. Hmm, was Master’s in the military? Maybe that contributed to his gruffness. 🙂 And the way he behaves? Masters is a good choice for his name. I’m enjoying your character building!
