Weekend Writing Warriors 8 – 11/29/2020 – Untitled WIP

Hey Weekend Writing Warriors. I was not sure I would get around to this week. In fact I am writing this past the time I would normally post it. It has been an extremely difficult week for me. As many of you may know I have a medical condition that prevents me from working. Some of you may know that I used to be a over the road truck driver and that I had to resign my position because of my condition.

Well I had an episode last Saturday evening. It was more severe than I have had since the beginning a year and a half ago. It knocked me on my behind for days. It even impacted my NaNoWriMo writing. Even to the point where I am not sure I will complete the competition this year. I still cannot fully form complete thoughts in my head right now. I wasn’t even sure I was going to be able to post this week, but I am 80% there this Saturday afternoon and I saw that the forum is still open, so I will give it ago. The forum is past posts, so I wont keep y’all waiting.

I do covet your prayers. Having a mental disability is not easy. Especially when it attempts to rob you of the very thing that is supposed to keep you going day by day. I am a writer. And when I am trying to write this novel and I cannot keep my characters straight or remember what I wrote last session, it is difficult to press on. And discouraging. I KNOW you above all people will understand the heartache of not being able to do what you love to do.

All is not lost. Pieces do come back. Each day I remember more and I am able to write more. Yesterday I wrote another 1000 words, today another I have another 500. So I am slowly getting back to normal. But this has been the biggest slap by far since my medical journey began a year and two months ago.

So please, if you have read this far with me, thank you, continue to pray for your Writing Warrior buddy down here in Texas and thank you for letting me rant. I know it’s not what you came here for. You want to find out about what happens next to Grady and the team.

I have what you are looking for. And we will pick up where we left off (if I can remember… just teasing I have it written down) We pick up with Grady presenting his findings of the four cases him and Carmen discovered. The team is being informed and a plan is being devised.

Last Week in Review

Last week Grady has just presented his team with his theory about a connection between Nelson and some past cases that he and Carmen had discovered. While there were some differences, the similarities couldn’t be ignored. He has just gotten through presenting his theory to the team and now is ready to show his findings to Masters.

—-

Grady also noted the lack of defensive wounds on the victims. Nor did the scenes showed any sign of struggle. But with Mr. Nelson, there were reports of screaming, so he was incapacitated enough not to struggle, but aware enough to experience pain. He talked Nettles and LaCrosse through his findings. He wanted to get their perspective before bringing it to Masters. Just don’t screw this one up. When Carmen returned from lunch, he went over it all again to get her final approval.

“So, what do you guys think?”

SYNOPSIS:

Lieutenant Daniel Masters is a 27-year veteran Savannah Georgia Major Crimes Detective. He has seen many crime scenes like the one he saw last February. Little did he know this one would change his life. Grady, the newest addition to his team, is the first to see the abnormalities, but will the rest of the team listen in time. There is a serial murder on the loose in South Georgia, and for some reason the killer leaves their final victim alive right before committing suicide. But why? Masters and Grady must find out before its too late and the next killer strikes again.

SNIPPET:

“Forensics and medical records are still out on Nelson. They are slow, it being Sunday and all,” Carmen said looking at her watch which was reversed on her wrist like a nurse, “He’s probably in recovery by now. I should have something by end of day tomorrow.”

“I think you have a point, kid,” said LaCrosse. “I wasn’t there, but if you see something between these cases, it is more than worth a look into.”

Carmen loaded the photos taken at the Nelson scene up onto the monitor in the corner of the room. “Could they get any further from the body?” She asked as she clicked through the two dozen photos. “At least they took multiple angles.”

***That is this week’s ten. Here is a bit more to take you a little bit deeper into the scene***

“And why weren’t we called in on this one? It’s our jurisdiction,” Nettles asked.

“It was called in as a domestic dispute,” said Masters. His voice and the buzzer from the gate simultaneously announcing his entry onto the floor.

“Sorry, sir. Meant no disrespect.” Nettles responded tipping his hat.

“By the time it looked different, it was wrapped up in a body bag. I had Grady on the way and their team was on-site, so I decided to let you guys get your beauty sleep. Didn’t realize it would get this complicated. Had I known, I would have done things differently. Whatcha got, Grady.”

“Somethings not right about this case as a stand alone when we consider these other four cases. I won’t know for sure until forensics comes back on Nelson, but I think they are all connected.”

I know we don’t get much info here, and I wanted to go deeper, but it would have doubled the length of the snippet. And even on Black Friday, I couldn’t feel Santa Clausey enough to deliver such a gift. LOL. But even our officers are not getting gifts today. Just questions that need to be answered. We will get some of them answered next week as Grady starts to move into his stride and his eyes begin to open up.

Thanks again for joining this week’s Snippet Sunday. And thank you for weathering my opening. Speaking of weather, it is a chilly rainy weekend here in South Texas. Perfect snippetting weather. But definitely not South Texas weather.

Finally, again. I do ask for your prayers. This is not an easy time for me. I do not like to talk about my health. I like to keep that close to the vest. But when it affects the thing that I love to do, I become afraid. And I am told that I need to reach out to others to help me through this season of life and not do it alone. To suffer from anything mental that will rob you of doing the very thing that you love to do is disheartening. So, I just ask for your prayers and thank you for listening. Have a great week and I look forward to reading your snippets across WeWriWa Land.

Thank you Teresa for providing this avenue for us writers to present our talents and to share our works with the world. Our group is an amazing group and I have grown from each and everyone of you.

    1. And the rabbit hole only goes deeper the more they dig. And it is what it is, Ian. Thanks for your concern. I just press on trying to do what I love to do. And as I write this, I do feel a bit better than I did when I went on my rant. I tell you one thing, as a writer, we always take an experience and we look at it as “Hmmm, how can I put this in a story…” Am I right? 😀

  1. You are such a clue tease, Jeff. 🙂 I love how this mystery is building.

I am so sorry to read about your health challenges. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. Sending hope wrapped up in a virtual hug. 🙂 One step at a time… It will come.

    1. Thanks, Teresa. All of this love and support could not happen if it weren’t for you. You have provided this avenue for us to display our talents to the world and support each other. So I think I can speak for many of us when I say, Thank YOU!! …

Yes, the mystery is building and we only know half of it…bwah…hah…hah… 😀

  2. Enjoyed the snippet which shows clearly their painstaking process and builds up to whatever he’s going to intuit (or detect, I guess I should say LOL). Glad to hear the words are flowing to some extent. Sending good thoughts and best wishes!

    1. Thanks, Veronica. Grady is on shaky ground. He wants to give good information and show his new team he knows what he is doing. His police intuit will only get him so far, so he will find out in future chapters, and get a little comical at times.

  3. I really empathize with your health issues, as I’ve been having some of my own — with the difference that while walking is hard to impossible, but sitting if just fine. It’s almost like somebody is telling me to sit on my rear and write!

  4. So sorry to hear about your health issues. As a social worker, most of my clients have issues of their own, whether mental health or physical problems on a spectrum from inconveniencing to debilitating, and one way I try to help them cope is by talking to them about spoon theory and the importance of just doing what you can each day, no matter if it’s a little or a lot. Putting pressure on yourself when your mind and body aren’t ready often just leads to more stress and frustration.
