Charlie Rich sang it best, crooning about rollin’ with the flow. But too often that’s all we do. We miss opportunities set before and into what God has planned for us. We wake up and go about our day doing the same ole same ole.’ Yeah, it’s our responsibility to meet obligations, but don’t we often wonder, ‘Is there something more?” Indeed, there is. And that something more is God’s plan and potential for our lives.
What that is, I don’t have an answer. It’s different for each of us. For me, it’s being a writer. For you, it will be something different. What passion burns inside of you? What gets you going? What is a desire you just feel you were meant to do? It could have to do with right where you are at, but perhaps your fire has died out for it. That happens. We can burn out for the very thing we once loved.
There is something more out there regardless of our current emotional state. God has a plan for our lives. We are all called to his work. It could be to stay right where we are, fulfilling his calling in the mission field of our jobs; it could be to transition into a new life he has planned in the very thing that is your heart’s desire; or it could be on a smaller scale of working your day job and using your talents and abilities to serve the world around you. God has a plan for you.
How would this world be if each of us turned our lives over to God and lived up to the potential God gave us? We don’t have to wait for a burning bush. We don’t need a blinding light from the sky or a rushing wind experience. We don’t need to pray for them, we’ve already read about them. We only need to act. We have the hunger, and the talents and abilities; most of all we already have the power of God through the Holy Spirit. We only have to act on His calling. Go, do, be who you need to be in Him. Live up to that potential and succeed!
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” – I Chronicles 7:14
