Hey fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. I’m back. What a crazy couple of weeks. I tried and tried to get a snippet together for last week. Even on Saturday I was trying to get over to my website to at least put a paragraph up. But I have so busy with writing work it was just not possible. I had also spent Friday and Saturday at a Men’s Retreat. A welcome break, but I was behind on my deadlines and by the time I was complete with my writing assignments, I had no energy to complete a snippet. This week was much slower and I have the time to keep things going.
Without anymore rambling, let’s get to our snippet. This week we are moving into Chapter two of The Transference II. You can read all about this book here.
*** The Transference is on sale now on Amazon!!!!! The paperback is on sale for the price of the Ebook!!! Not how long this will last. Hop on over and get your copy today!!!

SYNOPSIS:
Given that I am only four chapters in, I am still working on a full synopsis:
This book will take place roughly four years after the events of the first book.
Masters has retired and Grady now leads the team. All seems well until a series of murders take place that resemble the killings four years ago. Grady receives a call from Masters that he has discovered something at a local warehouse. A gun runner is using a long forgotten facility. Are the two events related? As the team is split between the two events that are tearing apart their city, it is a matter of time before an old enemy resurfaces and extends a challenge none of them expects.

SNIPPET:
Here we go moving along. The week before last we met Clarke and his trainee. He gave Grady a glowing review as Timothy Anders seemed to know a lot about Grady and his team. We close out this scene and move into a new chapter this week, back to Grady and his team.
—First, here is a the tail end of two week’s ago entry:
“Well, good morning, sweetie. It is a pleasure to meet you,” Bridgette said, extending her hand.
Officer Anders slowly lifted his arm to meet Bridgette’s hand, “Sorry. Firearm training this morning. Those suckers have a kick. Guess I’m still learning to deal with the aftermath.”
Clarke rolled his eyes to Bridgette, who laughed.
“So, are we ready or do you need a bit more time?”
::Two week’s ago entry ended a scene and a chapter We now move with Grady into the station house. Here we get to meet Carmen Albanese the tech officer for the unit.::
Grady could hear Carmen mumbling at her system when he entered his gate code. The tone sounded, alerting her to his presence. Her polite swearing at her uncooperative setup ceased and was replaced with the click clacks of a keyboard.
“One of those mornings, Carmen?”
“I wish,” Carmen said. “I would welcome one of those mornings. Those would be calm compared to what I’ve dealt with the last couple of hours.”
“That bad?”
Carmen looked up at him over the rim of her glasses, her bunned-up hair out of place, “Grady, we have a major crisis going on. You haven’t heard?”
::There is your ten (or so). Here is a bit more to finish the scene.::
“Should I have?”
“It’s Tanner, Grady. Or what appears to be Tanner,” Carmen said, looking back at one of her screens.
“Tanner? What are you talking about? Tanner is dead.”
“Well, it’s his pattern, I should say. I have tracked it back as far as I can right now in the time you gave me. Three murders so far… Come here,” she said, waving him over.
Grady walked over and looked up at Carmen’s center screen. She had three images up—just driver’s license photos. But police reports under each image.
“Where is the rest of it?”
“That’s part of the problem,” Carmen said, lifting her glasses. “I’m getting stonewalled by each department.
“How’s that?”
“One is in Seattle, one in Baltimore. The other is in Los Angeles. No one has any desire to help out their fellow boys, or girls in blue.” Camen tossed her glasses on the desk in front of her.
“Careful there,” Grady said.
“Sorry. I’m just falling short of living up to my image.”
“Allow me,” Grady said. He stepped away from Carmen and dialed a saved number on his phone. It rang twice, and a raspy voice answered.
“Hey, sweetie,” Grady said.
“You know I sure in the hell wouldn’t take it from your sandy-headed predecessor. I sure in the hell won’t take it from you, short round,” Atwood said.
“Just messing with you, Sarge,” Grady said with a coy laugh. “Can you help a guy out?”
“Well, you sure didn’t start well. But what’s your need?”
Carmen has uncovered something that is eerily familiar to an old case they worked. The case from the first book. Tanner was the antagonist. Grady shot and killed him, rather her, at the end of the novel… whoops. Well, still go get it and read it. It is a great read.
Next, as I’ve always said, Sgt. Atwood was one of my favorite characters to write in this series. If you have watched Chicago PD, then you know Sergeant Trudy Platt. Well, I guess you can say I stole her for this character. I loved her deadpan humor and stick to your guns, do your job the right way demeanor. So if you read her and visualize Sgt. Platt, I’ve succeeded. I didn’t intend to do it, but I needed a character to counter Masters and as I wrote her writing the first book, I was watching Chicago PD almost daily, so Trudy Platt just slipped onto the pages. She was fun to write in the first book, she will be fun to write in this one as well.

I hope she’ll be able to help. And I’d better have a look at Chicago PD. I liked the few episodes of Chicago Fire (I think that’s the title)

It is a good show. Although, I am not up to date on it. Stopped watching it a while back. Don’t remember why. Think it may have been a streaming issue. And yes Chicago Fire was the sister show to it. Platt showed up in episodes of it.

No worries, Jeff! I find that in my own work all the time. Unintentional imitation is a form of flattery . . . as long as you make it your own, which you’ve done here so wonderfully!!

I did. I am sure you understand. There is always one character in your story, and it is not always your MC that you just love writing.

Sounds like Carmen is good at her job. I have a feeling the Sarge will be able to help uncover even more.
