The past couple of weeks have been introspective, as they usually are for a Christian. We tend to do that during the ‘big’ holidays. We realize we are indeed human and take for granted the gift we have from the one who loves us so much that He gave this gift to us, namely for Easter, His life for us. This was planned from the words, “Let there be light,” back in Genesis 1.
It was part of a great plan. God knew Adam and Eve would mess up. He knew the devil would deceive them, and He would have to cast them out of Eden. He knew there would come a day that the original sin would need… ‘fixing’. I cannot answer why it took 4000 years to get there, but God had a plan. That plan was the cross.
Three amazing things could be overlooked while considering the cross. One is the earthquake. The second, the temple curtain between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. This curtain was 30×15 and the thickness of a man’s hand; it was torn from top to bottom. Amazing. What astounds me is our third event—the darkness that hung over the land. This could very well be a supernatural darkness or other celestial event; God can cause the sun to stand still; He’s done that before on a couple of occasions, but what if this event was an eclipse?
Hold on, stay with me. I’m not saying this to discount spiritual events. Rather, to reinforce them. Remember my opening remarks. God orchestrates everything. This would mean that from “Let there be light” to the very second Jesus hung on the cross and died, that eclipse was put into motion. God knew the earth and moon would align for the darkness over that specific area of Jerusalem. If God could cause the sun to stand still for Joshua, he could cause the moon to stand still here. In either case, something spiritual is going on. God is in control.
Everything that happens is God-aligned. He knows what will happen even before we are born. God knows us. Our lives reflect that. Yes, even those unfortunate ugly events that occur. Yes, it’s sad we have to experience the horrendous, but God has a reason for us having to go through them. He is in control of all things. Our task is to live, accept, and move forward. Then use our experiences to better ourselves and help those around us who have shared experiences. God uses those who are His through their distresses to help those who are not through theirs. And God aligns those individuals at just the right time and place. That is why we always need to be ready.
God had a plan then; He has a plan today. And through his death on the cross and a torn temple curtain we all have access to His presence. All we need to do is ask and surrender ourselves. Yes, sometimes it requires becoming broken before Him. Those horrendous things of our past often will leave us shattered. But only Christ can pick up those pieces and make us whole again.
He saw you there; He sees you here. It’s now your responsibility to act on what you now know. Only Christ can bring the healing you need; only Jesus can make you whole again. All of it, up to you reading this blog was set for this moment, Christ’s impeccable timing. Won’t you give him your life today? He has your healing if you are ready to receive it.
