Did you see it? Were you among the lucky ones who were able to see Monday’s spectacular sight? Or were you like me here in South Texas under a blanket of clouds praying for just a peek of the magnificent splendor of a once-in-a-lifetime experience?
Our last eclipse in October drew a line through our small town. I didn’t need to go anywhere but my front porch to see it. Cloud cover blocked my view of that eclipse except for a moment when the clouds parted at totality, and I was able to see the ring of fire; it was an amazing sight. I was eager for the next opportunity, April 8, 2024. A date that had been on my calendar for two years when I had learned of the dual eclipses.
I knew this next one would be a bit out of my area, so plans were in motion to get in the zone. Luckily Carolyn’s work was just inside totality. I was excited should she be able to get the day off for us to watch it together. Either way, I was prepared. Well, turned out not prepared for the weather system that rolled in.
Carolyn worked, so I sat at McDonald’s waiting, praying, for the weather to clear. I’m sure many others were sitting hands together as well. We were eager to see this wonderous celestial event. But God had other plans.
It’s interesting how things work out and what God allows to happen. I spent Tuesday, the day after, in thought as I looked out my window at sunny skies. Was it just the weather system pushing through? Was it a God-thing of him showing us He is in control with so many either looking to the sky either in worship or with all the other ‘religious nuts’ touting that God was waiting for the exact moment to descend on His cloud for his chosen ones? Heh. I don’t know. What I do know is that God is in control of all things. It is rather humorous that when people look to the sky for a sign, it is hidden from them.
In any case, Christ did not return as those extremists touted. I will admit, it would’ve been nice for Him to have. But I am okay that He didn’t. However, their claims caused a lot of damage to the name of Jesus. The future is as cloudy as the view of the sun that was hidden behind the moon. Yet, it’s in the past now and we must move forward. The sun shined today, proving there will always be another day, no matter how cloudy it gets or how confusing the present may be.
God is in control and always will be. And even though Michael wasn’t sent to blow the trumpet this time. He is preparing to do so. We just need to be ready when it sounds. It will happen. And I know I am listening for it. What about you?
