I’ve been reading a lot about peace this last week during my devotional time. My waters were calm, and I had been enjoying God’s peace, so I knew something could be heading my way. Then it happened. My wife calls me from the intersection of the major highways in town. Our car will not move. With God’s grace, she had been stopped at the light. However, when the light turned green, after a pop, the car would not go. We were filled with thoughts of the worst.
After a push from a couple of Good Samaritans, a call to our insurance company, and a long wait, our car was towed home. On a side note, make sure you purchase Roadside Assistance when you get car insurance. It’s well worth the monthly expense. It’s not just the insurance copywriter in me saying this. It allowed our car to come home without hundreds of dollars in towing fees. Okay, off my soapbox.
Our biggest fear was that the transmission had failed. Just a few thousand dollars were left on our car note and this happens. Sheesh. Yet the knowledgeable tow truck driver took one look at our disabled vehicle and informed us that the expected $2000 job would not be in our future. Nope, it was only a broken CV axle. A $400 expense. Praise the Lord!! Now just labor costs, enter our mechanically inclined son. We should be up and running by the end of the week.
Through it all, even expecting a $2000 bill, I knew God would provide. I trusted in Him. He has always seen us through tough times. We have been through worse. So having peace is an easy thing to do; it is easier though when we get that gentle reminder. I thank God that he prepared me. This is why it is important to stay in his word daily. He provides words of comfort as we go through storms, or as I learned, He reminds us He will be there before we are about to step into a trial.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. – Romans 5:3
We put our hope in the Lord; He is our help and our shield. – Psalm 33:20
