Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Had an exciting week. Wrapped up a project I have been working on the past few months. Rather working on the past few years that I have finally wrapped up the past few months. I’m looking forward to announcing it soon. Maybe even next week, we will see how things go. Usually you guys are the first to know what is happening in my writing world. So, stay tuned.
Let’s tune our dials into what is going on in Aaron and Deborah’s lives this week.
SYNOPSIS:
Aaron Stephenson loves his job. As food critic for the popular Houston Gazette, he gets to sample the best cuisine at the finest eateries in Houston without paying a dime. And because there are so many great restaurants in Houston, he doesn’t have to visit the same establishment twice… unless he wants to.
But when Aaron stops in at Davies Deli, a non-descript, off-the-beaten-path, family-owned diner, he suddenly realizes he wants to come back;
But it has to do more with the owners’ brown haired, green eyed daughter, Deborah than the delicious food.
Aaron and Deborah feel a mutual attraction. But Deborah has a secret that could change everything.
And then there is Carter…

Summary:
This love story novel was born out of a dream I had about an angel leaving nick knacks behind for a couple to find as they walked through an amusement park together. They were reminders about them being a couple because they were struggling. Them finding these ‘little reminders’ drew them back together. The novel also has a dual storyline, in that the MC also has a struggle with their relationship with God, so they are also being drawn back to Him as well. The diner idea came from my personal love for food, writing some of the book sitting in a Denny’s, and working in kitchens for almost 10 years.
Here is a bit from last week.
{Aaron} thought about Davies Deli. He would eventually have to get back to writing the review of them. Even though he had been to the restaurant nearly every day for two weeks now, he had yet to take his notes and write a word about the restaurant itself. Aaron knew he would have to get over his emotional roadblocks and just write the piece.
The thought reminded him of his utter failure not two hours ago. ‘I don’t think it would be a good idea,’ she had said — not a good idea.
We are jumping into the next chapter. Closing time for the restaurant. We pick up with Deborah and Erica (a waitress in the deli) finishing up with the last customer.
“Thank you, Clarence,” said Deborah, escorting the last customer of the day out the door. “See you on Monday.” Clarence was a regular. He always came in at two and stayed until closing. Deborah was almost convinced he had a secret crush on her mom. He would always sit at the same booth next to the kitchen door and glow if she made an appearance.
Deborah locked the door and turned back to Erica. She was wiping down the last table where Clarence had sat. As she finished, she brushed her blonde hair from her face and exhaled, nodding in approval. She liked Erica. She was a hard worker, and it was not easy to find a good waitress, especially among the college crowd. Erica wasn’t like the others, she was determined. She was attending the University of Houston, majoring in English; she wanted to be a teacher.
::There is your ten, or so, but let’s continue on and get a little more into the scene.::
“Looks good,” Deborah encouraged. “Thank you for all your hard work, Erica. It’s a pleasure to work with you. I just want you to know you are appreciated. Mom and Pop have been struggling since Josh left. Thank you for all you to do fill in the gap, I know they appreciate it. Between what you and Miguel do, I don’t think they could handle it.”
Erica smiled, “I do my best. But I tell ya, it’s not as easy as I thought it would be.”
Deborah smiled. She knew it all too well. She has been working off and on as a waitress for years. It’s much more than taking orders and delivering food. “Believe me. I get it. Pop should have your check before you clock out. When you see Miguel, let him know.”
She headed back to the office she could hear Pop banging pots and pans together and mom yelling to him, “Why do you have to be so loud, Poppa?” It made her smile. She loved to hear her parents together. She envied their love, wanting to experience for herself what it was like to grow old with someone. Deborah did not want to believe what the doctors said. She was not convinced their diagnosis was accurate.
In reality, there was no real diagnosis. The doctors were as puzzled about her fatigue and lethargy as she was. She had every test thinkable, but no real reason why she could be fine one moment then completely drained the next. The tinnitus they said was a common thing, that many people suffer from ringing of the ears. In her case ear, her left ear to be exact. So, they were not concerned by it. But the fatigue confounded them. Today was a good day, she had energy, and she had been on her feet most of the day.
Getting a bit deeper into Deborah and that everything is not okay. But flashes that there are good days and bad days. I can attest to those with a chronic illness.
