Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Yes, I love that my Lord and Savior came into this world on Christmas, and I celebrate it wholeheartedly. I don’t discount that, but I love being able to spend time with my family and extended family. I especially love being in the kitchen and cooking and preparing a meal for everyone.
We have been the home everyone comes to for as long as I can recently remember. Probably since we have lived in Texas. Carolyn and I relocated back to Texas from California in 2005 after dealing with California’s crazy cost of living surge. I’m not sure what prompted the turkey baking homage, I guess the size of our family just made it logical that folks came to us instead of us trekking around to everyone else of smaller size.
But through it all, it has been a blessing to me, a former cook in a restaurant, to be able to use my talents and passion to cook for others. I love to cook. I do it every day. Our family never has a throw-in-the-oven meal; everything is cooked from scratch. It is one blessing we have from me being at home all the time. And we are thankful that through my disability, God had enabled me to provide my family with this blessing.
What are you thankful for this holiday season? What things have you found it easy to overlook? God blesses us every day with things we take for granted. Take a moment in the next few days, whether you live in the US and celebrate the holiday or abroad, and hear about it through FB, IG, and X posts, to be thankful for the small things in your life.
In any case, God bless you, friends. I pray you think about how you have been blessed this year and never take anything for granted. Take what you have learned and pass it on, pay it forward, and keep on keeping on. Be thankful in all circumstances, as the Bible teaches, it is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – I Thessalonian 5: 16-18
