I believe all things have a purpose. God has a design for everything that happens. Like pieces of a puzzle, life happens and creates a picture that will be revealed when all pieces are all in place. How many pieces are in my puzzle or where these pieces ultimately go are sometimes confusing, but just like my grandmother and aunt used to do, you take a section at a time, then build around that.
In God’s Word we read about a possessed boy that the disciples could not heal, even through their prayers invoking Jesus’ name. But when Jesus came to him, and talking with the dad, He told the father, “If you believe all things are possible.” Then Jesus cast out the unclean spirit. He goes on to tell His disciples that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed we can do impossible things.
Faith the size of a puzzle piece.
All things have a purpose.
How far does that go? How much does God listen? Where is the line between faith to move mountains and God’s plan for our lives?
It was God’s plan to heal the boy of his possession. Just as it was God’s plan to heal many of their infirmities throughout scripture. I have known folks healed of their infirmities, and I have known those who succumbed to illness. My father for instance. At the same time he had cancer, a friend of his had cancer. He was healed; my father was taken. I don’t know why. But through my life, I know I am the man I am today through the events of my fathers passing.
Today I face my own diagnosis. While the surgeon says they got it all, treatment for the aftermath still remains. I find that out in a couple weeks. Dylan, my son is also on his road. We got some encouraging words that things may not be as dark as we were led to think. Chemo will still be in his future, but it seems the pathology could be on more positive note.
God has His reasons for leading both of us down this path. All things have a purpose. Just as the father and son had their encounter with Jesus and He had His reasoning for their experience, I believe God has a purpose here. I just need to remember that all it takes is mustard seed faith to get through this journey.
“…if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there; and it will move…” – Matthew 17:20
