Last night our men’s group met for our Men’s Fireside. It is our monthly gathering where we grill, and the host speaks. Sometimes it is their testimony, other times it is a Bible lesson. As most of you know I live in south Texas. It is in the middle of the country and ranches are prevalent. So, our speaker’s lesson revolved around his ranching dog. I was blown away by how these dogs so easily with a word can round up a field of cattle. It was amazing.
The lesson compared to how we should be like those dogs, ready and willing to listen for our Lord’s commands. Easily and willing to be led. Most of all, without question. He knows best. The less stubborn we are, the easier it is to obey. The more we listen, the easier it becomes. God always knows best.
In other news, this week, our daughter’s Color Guard team made State. Their last competition at Area was practically flawless. Out of the 32 schools that competed they came in second. Second. Just wow!! They practiced and practiced, and their hard work has paid off. They will compete this weekend against 6 schools. I am excited to go and watch her twirl her flag and rifle. (it’s wooden).
{{EDIT: They competed today and won State!!}}
In both these instances, much training goes into the process. The collies are trained from the time they are about six months old. The one we saw was three years old. It was amazing. Audrey has been with Color Guard for a few years. Now a Sophomore, she is on the Varsity team. Each year perfecting her ability.
God has each of us where we are at, giving us abilities. It doesn’t have to be chasing cattle or flipping flags. What do you do well? Whatever it is, do that. It could be your current job; it could be something on the side. Regardless, do it. Nothing is ever a waste of time, no matter what others may try to tell us. Our God-given abilities are our ministry. Get out and go do it and see the blessings that will pour in. To you and to those impacted by your ability.
“whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” – Colossians 3:23-24
