I have witnessed too many Christians witness with so much condemnation that whatever compassion they are trying to spread has lost its effectiveness. One cannot spread the love of God with fingers pointed. There are far too many pew sitters looking down noses and not sharing the gracious love of God the Word tells us we should be spreading.
Hey. I’m not singling anyone out here. I’ve been guilty of such instances myself. We see someone who is unfamiliar or doesn’t look like us, we can be quick with a snap judgment. It’s simple to do, we are human. We can all be like those on the road to Emmaus and cross over to the other side. This is not sharing the Love of God.
There are things we can do to cut off the knee-jerk reactions we can have. It begins with how we speak to others. In Luke 6:31, Jesus teaches us that we should treat others the same way we would want to be treated. Words can make a tremendous difference. They can make a person feel worth something or they can make them feel worthless. Begin there. Share God’s love through the words you speak and allow that to draw them to Christ.
“Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” – Colossians 4:6 NLT
