Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Friday was rather emotional. It was the second anniversary of my sisters passing. She had Congestive Heart Failure. In her twenties and thirties she was a drug user. Even though she quit, in her forties the damage had been done. She lived two years after her diagnosis. I was grateful I was able to see her one last time with her visit to Texas during Christmas 2002. She called me for Father’s Day 2003 and we talked for two hours. Less than a week later she was gone. I have great memories of my sister, and not so great memories. Hey, she was my sibling. Through it all we made it through life together. I’m glad I get to see it within the faces of my niece and nephew.

SYNOPSIS:
Masters has retired and Grady now leads the team. All seems well until a series of murders take place resembling the killings four years ago. Grady receives a call from Masters that he has uncovered something at a local warehouse.
A gun runner is using a long-forgotten facility. As the team investigates, they discover more than meets the eye when clues lead them to realize the two events may be related.
It is only a matter of time before an old nemesis resurfaces and extends a challenge none of them expects.

Summary:
The Transference II is a sequel to The Transference. It takes place roughly six months after the close of the first novel. The team is settling back into normal cop life when the past resurfaces and they are sent back into the craziness of tracking a killer who should’ve been dead long ago.
A bit of background so you can understand what’s going on. Sophia if from the first book. She was the final person that Tanner possessed. She is a small time drug runner in this book with her partner Greer. Tanner is back and possess another individual, but he is using her to commit his crimes again. Esteban is room service, and Masters is a retired detective working to find Thoran.
Here is a bit from last week:
“You still want to go through with this?”
“You are the one who came up with this target, Thoran. And if you forget, we are on a timeline. We may not find anyone as perfect as Esteban between now and then, especially now that the heat will be turned up with what you’ve done with Masters. We have no choice. We proceed as planned. There is a ballpark behind the fire station on the Expressway; meet me in the parking lot. See you at nine.”
We are in the next chapter. Grady has arrived to the scene, others are on the way. Again for the sake of brevity I skipped a few paragraphs, but we didn’t lose anything.
A couple of police vehicles led to a side street that looked more like an alleyway. Masters’ vehicle was there, the rear door was opened, and two men were turning a body onto its back; it was Masters. They had placed him on their gurney and zipped up the bag. In seconds, they had him secured in the back of their van—nothing to see here, folks.
One of the officers was writing in a notepad near the rear of Masters’ sedan. Grady approached him with his badge at his waist.
“Excuse me, Officer. Detective James Gradiosa. Savannah PD.”
“Don’t think we called you guys out here,” the Officer said sternly.
There is your ten, let’s continue on for a bit.
“Is that how you are going to play it? If you have run his ID, then you know who I am. Why would you say such a thing?”
“Because you being here is personal. This is out of your jurisdiction, and he was retired. That means he was not on duty or police business. So, let us do our job and investigate the crime committed on our island.”
“You have absolutely no clue, do you, Officer?” Grady said. “You do not know what capacity the Lieutenant was behaving in, so don’t start judging me or him. I know more about who committed this crime than you do. I came here to solve a case, and I couldn’t care less about your town or your island. Now, you will either read me in, or I will make a call and take over your investigation.”
“You just got here. How could you know more than us?”
“Trust me, I do. Now, I have two questions for you. First, how was the Lieutenant shot?”
The officer eyed Grady, then shrugged. “We are not sure. Your Detective did have an empty holster at his ankle. We failed to find a weapon in the immediate area. And yes, we searched the dumpster. Luckily, trash pickup was at 0600 today; it was relatively empty.”
“Second, have you canvassed the area yet? Looked for eyewitnesses?”
“Of course,” the Officer said. “Nothing so far.”
“What about the hotels?”
“The hotels?”
“Your perpetrator could have been a tenant of one of them. I would next check there,” Grady pointed to the Tribecca Hotel behind him. “If Lt. Masters was down here, he was here for a reason. And now that he is deceased, he obviously found what he was looking for. Being this close to that hotel, perhaps what he found was there.”
“Boss!” a voice called from behind him. Grady turned and saw LaCrosse. He waved him over.
“This is one of my Detectives from our Savannah department. I hope you will treat him better than you have treated me. Continue with your scene here. We will check the hotel. I expect a full report. Find that gun, Officer.”
Thoran has escaped, but perhaps what they will find in the hotel will leave them some clues. We shall see next week.
