SNIPPET:
Summary:
The Transference II is a sequel to The Transference. It takes place roughly six months after the close of the first novel. The team is settling back into normal cop life when the past resurfaces and they are sent back into the craziness of tracking a killer who should’ve been dead long ago.
Here is a bit from last week:
“Grady. You can’t blame yourself,” Carmen said. “Get that out of your head. We have a case in front of us. Masters would tell us to get out there and solve it. Now, in his honor, that is what we are going to do. So, get out there and do what he trained us to do.”
“I’m on my way.”
“I’ll send the address to your phone,” Carmen said.
“10-4.” Grady acknowledged. “And Carmen, thanks.”
That closed the scene, now into the next, the murder scene. Before we begin, I want to remind you that our Detectives aren’t completely sure of the existence of the second killer. They think Thoran may be acting alone. Let’s get into it…
Grady stepped into the Sunrise Park home dining room, and Dr. Glavine was sitting on a chair, writing feverously on a notepad. He had that mysterious glow about him—he found something.|
“What’s different, Doctor?” Grady asked.
“Oh, you know me so well, Detective,” Dr. Glavine said. “I cannot confirm my findings. They are mere speculation, but in my experience with this case, I am fairly certain that with your second victim, there is a decent amount of hesitation.”
“Can you clarify?”
“When someone is exacting an incision, and they are confident in what they are doing, they begin the cut and complete it. No pausing or hesitation,” Dr. Glavine said as he imitated the action mid-air. “With our second perpetrator, it is as if they began the cut and paused, then continued. You could tell on the body by small blood-pooling spots on the skin. Normally, the blood would just flow. When one pauses, it pools at the pause point under the perpetrator’s hand or knife, whatever is causing the blood flow to gather. That is what happened here. I wish the body were still here so I could show you. I will have to wait until the photos are developed. I had the crew focus in on those areas in addition to their other crime scene images.”
There is your ten or so, let’s continue on to finish the scene. It may be a little long.
“Your opinion is still two perpetrators, then?” Grady asked.
“Most definitely,” Glavine said. “Even more so now.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” Grady said. “Are any of my colleagues here?”
“Detective LaCrosse is with the scene. He is the only one I have seen, but I have had my nose in my notes.”
Grady thanked the doctor again and walked through the apartment. Just like other scenes. Clean, not a picture frame out of place. Grady rounded the second corner, and it became evident that the home had been violated. The room was empty save LaCrosse, Nettles, and two men in bio-hazard gear.
“It’s about time, Boss,” LaCrosse said. “We can’t hold off these guys much longer. They need to clean this place up.”
Grady nodded. “Give me a few moments, gentlemen. I just want to look over the scene before you do what you need to do.”
Aggravated, they stepped out of the room. Grady stepped around a couple of pieces of their equipment, looked at the blood splatter, and tried to see what Glavine saw. But his details said that all the evidence was on the body. He would have to wait for the photographs.
“What do you see, Nettles,” Grady asked his best pair of eyes.
“I admit, at first glance, they appear to be committed by the same individual, as the patterns match up superficially.” She paused, “However, the one on the right is slightly different, which would be expected with two individuals.”
“Lacrosse?” Grady said.
“I am confident we’re dealing with two suspects,” LaCrosse said. “One wouldn’t make sense. Too much would have to happen for a single person to be behind this. My guess is that we are dealing with a teacher and an apprentice. Tanner/Thoran is teaching the individual who plans to succeed her. How that will take place, we don’t know at this point. But we are at the point where we need to find out. Three murders have been committed. Thoran’s next sacrifice will be her Transference.”
Things are heating up!! Confirmation of a second suspect. But who could it be? When I was writing this, it proved interesting because at first I wasn’t even sure. I had to backtrack and change a few things to work it out to who it would eventually be. The mystery of planster writing.

NICE! I’m right in the scene and eager to learn more about their deductions.

Thanks, Nancy. I will admit, though, this edition is less gruesome than the first. I go into a bit more detail with the scenes in the first books.
