Each of us has free will. Each of us also has a purpose in our life. A God-given purpose that we either know or will learn as we grow closer to Jesus.
Have you ever considered that Jesus himself had both of these? Jesus had free will. Jesus had a purpose. Of course, we all know He had a purpose: to go to the cross and die for humanity for their sins.
But free will? That is such a you-and-me word. A sinful man term where we turn to Jesus for forgiveness because we choose to sin because of that free will. We chose to sin out of our free will to follow our sinful desires. But think about it. Jesus was fully human. Not that he was sinful, but he lived with that desire to sin but chose not to sin. Having those urges gives him the ability to relate to each of us.
Jesus went to the cross to be sin, but he was sinless. He had to be spotless; it was the only way we could be completely forgiven. He knew it and went willingly. He loved you and me while we were in our sin. So much of His Word speaks to this. All we need to do is accept it. It is our free will.
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” — Romans 5:8
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
