Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. What an interesting week. If you are a 70/80s kid like I am, you have been on somewhat of an emotional roller coaster this past week as we lost many of our icons. Between Ozzy, Malcom, and the Hulk, I’m not sure which affected me the most. All at one point made an imprint on my childhood/teenage life. Even Chuck Mangione’s “Feels So Good” was a memory burn for me. What about you?

SYNOPSIS:
Masters has retired and Grady now leads the team. All seems well until a series of murders take place resembling the killings four years ago. Grady receives a call from Masters that he has uncovered something at a local warehouse.
A gun runner is using a long-forgotten facility. As the team investigates, they discover more than meets the eye when clues lead them to realize the two events may be related.
It is only a matter of time before an old nemesis resurfaces and extends a challenge none of them expects.
SNIPPET:
Summary:
The Transference II is a sequel to The Transference. It takes place roughly six months after the close of the first novel. The team is settling back into normal cop life when the past resurfaces and they are sent back into the craziness of tracking a killer who should’ve been dead long ago.
Here is a bit from last week:
“I am confident we’re dealing with two suspects,” LaCrosse said. “One wouldn’t make sense. Too much would have to happen for a single person to be behind this. My guess is that we are dealing with a teacher and an apprentice. Tanner/Thoran is teaching the individual who plans to succeed her. How that will take place, we don’t know at this point. But we are at the point where we need to find out. Three murders have been committed. Thoran’s next sacrifice will be her Transference.”
That closes that scene. We move ahead just one scene and into the computer room where Grady and LaCrosse are now watching surveillance videos. It may be a bit long, but this being my final snippet, I wanted to close out on a decent scene.
Grady and LaCrosse watched the videos, rotating between the fourteen channels. Each view gave them a seven-second peek before it rotated. The video played at normal speed for about a half hour with nothing but regular business being conducted. They knew it would be simple to identify their couple, so they sped up the video feed through a toggle key. Now, people moved, danced, and ran at super speed, but still no person in a wheelchair.
An hour later, their fast-forward expedition timestamp neared sixteen hundred hours, the window that the coroner placed on Masters’ time of death. If it were going to be on camera, it would happen soon.
“Wait!” LaCrosse said. “Look!”
There is your ten or so, let’s continue on to finish the scene.
Grady saw it, too. They quickly stopped the rotation and set the main viewer on the Main Entrance camera. A gruff-looking mountain of a man stood near the street. He was facing the camera, talking to a blonde woman, but she had her back to the camera.
“Is that Thoran?” LaCrosse asked.
“Thoran has dark brown hair. However, the most recent description has the woman with the man in a wheelchair as a blonde. This could be her.”
They continued to talk. Grady clicked on the volume button, but nothing came up. Just Masters making quick motions. He stepped onto the sidewalk and closer to her. Then he took her by the arm and began to lead her away.
“Where are they going?” LaCrosse asked.
Grady clicked through cameras and found the Highway View angles. One showed down the avenue, the other up it. It was the first that gave a better view of across the street. The Front Entrance also provided a peek, but it was off to the right of the screen and only showed them walking toward the alleyway. The Highway view wasn’t any better. It showed the two of them walking into and disappearing into the alley and then nothing. Ten minutes later, it looks like someone enters the alley and then frantically exits. Five minutes later, the first officer shows up. Grady swallowed hard, realizing that was the moment his friend lost his life.
“We need to know what time Thoran checked out,” Grady said. “Or whatever assumed name they used.”
“Without a name, that will be difficult to find out,” LaCrosse said.
“Just ask about a blonde with a disabled relative. Chances are that is how they are selling it.”
“Makes sense,” LaCrosse said and left the room.
Grady rewound the video to where Masters was alive and talking with the assumed Thoran in front of the hotel. Blonde hair in a ponytail, dark grey hoodie, blue jeans. He fast-forwarded the feed to after he lost Masters again and then back to the Main Entrance of the hotel, looking for Thoran to come back or for her and her friend to leave the hotel. It had to be soon because law enforcement was quick to swarm the area. She would not want to be anywhere near the action.
LaCrosse returned with a laugh. “Would you believe this place? They accepted a cash payment and the name of Jane Doe. No ID, no credit card, no proof of residency. Jane did pay double the room rate for their privacy.”
Grady listened with his eyes glued to the screen. He wasn’t going to miss that ponytail re-enter the hotel or exit it with her friend in tow. Even from this view, Grady could see two local LEOs arrive. He wondered if he had missed their subjects leaving or if they had found another way out. But as soon as the thought hit him, one of the lobby screens caught them, and he clicked on the image.
“There. Hoodie, jeans, and a blonde ponytail,” Grady pointed. “She is pushing the man in the wheelchair. That’s them!”
“Well, it’s about time,” LaCrosse said.
To Grady, the man was nothing to look at. He seemed feeble. As suspected, this was not their knife-wielding duo. There was no way this man was a ruthless killer. If Thoran was their subject, she had an apprentice, but who could it be? If she was caring for this gentleman, how could she train someone?
“Now we just need to follow where they go from here,” Grady said.
“Let’s hope the cameras will show us.”
“They are exiting the front,” LaCrosse pointed to the screen. “Highway View.”
Grady switched screens. It was further up the road—nothing.
“We need to know where they went after they left the hotel,” LaCrosse said.
“Maybe Carmen can find them on traffic cam footage?” Grady dialed the station.
“We’ll need more than the footage here,” LaCrosse said.
“That’s where Carmen shines. If anyone can find them, she will.”
Here we come to a close of snippets from this novel. I hope you have enjoyed what I have shared and have an interest in this series. The Transference is available on Amazon and this sequel I’ve been sharing from will be released in October.
I’m not sure what will come next or if I will take a break for a couple of weeks. It seems many of us are not posting anymore.

Yes. I need to move on and share something new. Maybe go back and share a different novel. I don’t have any WIPs, nor do I have anything planned. The well is dry right now. Another reason I just need a break. Focus on my health and seeing if there is anything left in the tank to begin writing again.
I have The Five Barred Gate III that I am doing the final edit, which I switched snippets to give you this novel snippets. That looks to be released in April, maybe May of 2026. Perhaps I can look to start up then. We shall see. Maybe come November of this year NaNoWriMo may stir up the writer vibes. Again, we shall see.
Thanks for being one of the faithful, Iris. God bless. I should still drop in and check you what everyone is posting, or at least try to.
