Hello fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. It has been a hectic week. And a flood of emotions. Monday, the 7th always is. It was the anniversary of my father’s passing. 41 years now. It’s also a celebratory day. I proposed to my wife. Not that I forced it, it was her day off. Then Audrey’s birthday. We are celebrating it today. So, a week of celebrating life. My dad’s new life in Heaven, our new life together, and a child born into this world. God is good!!
You can follow me on social media, especially on Twitter, or X nowadays. I post all links, especially for my Two Twenty Two Tuesday YouTube vlog. I always have something going on, X is the best place to keep up. God bless, friends.
SYNOPSIS:
Detective Grady is haunted by the final events of the second novel through a series of nightmares. Fear drives him to ask his tech genius, Carmen, to begin monitoring all search engines, news sites, and social media platforms for crimes that resemble their case two years ago.
After another nightmare, Grady begins to see the department psychologist which helps him. Two weeks go by and Grady decides to ask Carmen to cancel the search, but that morning, Carmen has found something. This time in Mexico.
SNIPPET:
Still writing day by day. A couple more chapters written. Let’s get back into it:
Here is the last bit from last week:
After about five minutes and several rotations, one of Carmen’s four boxes lit up, and a notification tone sounded. She clicked on the screen, and it brought the box full screen.
“Dang it,” Ryan said in frustration that he lost the bet. “Well, let’s see what we got. Let’s catch a perp.”
We pick up in the next scene. Grady’s team is hard at work trying to find their current criminal:
Grady joined Ryan at their screen for the frozen Honda image. Carmen was on the phone with Heiskell constable authorities trying to get a unit to the Travel Center that was just off the highway. Look, but don’t approach. They wanted THP, to apprehend due to the seriousness of the situation. Lockhart was a murderer. That and extradition would be simpler between THP and TxDOT than a local authority.
“No,” Carmen said again to the air, adjusting her earpiece. “Do not approach. We appreciate your officer’s ability, but this offender is extremely dangerous. We don’t want to put any more lives at risk. When you have a visual contact THP and pass him on… Yes, your department will get full credit for the apprehension.” Carmen rolled her eyes.
There is your ten, or so. Let’s continue on for a bit more.
“How long ago was this?” Grady looked over at Ryan.
“Twenty minutes, half hour at the most,” Ryan said.
“A car can get far in half an hour,” Grady said.
“Good news is that we know where he is headed.”
Carmen joined the pair with an exasperated exhale. “You would think that would’ve been easier. Too many cops nowadays want the glory. If something isn’t in it for them, let someone else do it.”
Carmen moved the frozen image to one of the upper screens and made it a dual image with a live feed of the station. Then she replaced hers and Ryans with four new cameras apiece.
“The algorithm now has his vehicle in its memory. It will be easier to identify instead of guessing,” Carmen said. “The new cams we have are of I75 N, on your screen, and HWY 441 N, on mine, just in case he likes the scenic route. Cover all our bases.”
“We are moving away from Knoxville though, right?”
“Yes. You have I 75, I am on 441. You have 8 cams on your four screens, they will alternate four, then four for an hour. So, keep your eyes focused.”
Inching our way back into the story. Seeing all the “errors” or opportunities to edit make me twitch. I prefer the editing process. Yeah, I enjoy writing, but polishing the finished product is what I love to do. I hope you are getting into this story, though. A little slow right now though.
