I came across something this last week that struck a chord with my past. I came across a scent that threw me back to my younger days. Has this ever happened to you? A sound, a scent, or a flavor that immediately brings back childhood memories. It is an interesting experience. I was taken back to those moments and was that teenager again.
If you are a Christian, you can have these moments as well. The day you accepted Jesus is a moment you will remember for the rest of your life. That moment when the word of God came to life and everything clicked and became real to you. Jesus died for your sins and mine. He rose from the grave to conquer death so we can live forever with Him when we move on from this world. We are free from the bondage that this world and the devil hold us under. That memory of receiving that freedom is impressed upon our hearts and minds.
Chances are you remember the day, where you were, who you were with, and you may remember who was speaking. It could be young like me with my dad. It could be at a Youth Camp with a speaker. It could be older at a church service with a pastor’s altar call, or it could be with a friend at a coffee shop who is talking to you about Jesus, and you finally understand. When Jesus becomes real to you, He becomes tangible. Heh, it could be right now as you are reading this. The point is, when God touches your heart, it is time, and that moment sticks with you forever.
Our memories do fail us over time, but when God touches us, that will stick with us. Our “God-moments” are forever. When we are feeling doubtful or afraid, we can lean back on those. Every once in a while, we get those whiffs of our past, and God becomes real again. We can do our work by staying in His Word, maintaining a prayer life, and keeping relationship with other believers through church attendance. God is always there, a sweet aroma to our faith.
“For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” – 2 Corinthians 2:15
