Draw Me Near

We sang a hymn this past Sunday, and you know those occasions when the lyrics just come alive to you. You may have sung them for years, but that one Sunday, maybe you are going through a challenging period in your life, or something in the words triggers a memory from the past week, but the words on the screen just jump out at you. This happened on Sunday for me.

There are heights of joy that I may not reach till I rest in peace with Thee. What spoke to me in what I sang is that while on this earth, I may experience happiness, or perhaps I may live my life and consistently get knocked down and wonder where my Savior is, never reaching joy. But there is a promise that I will rest one day and achieve peace in Christ one day. We just need to stay near Jesus, near the Cross.

Our lives will be filled with ups and downs, but God’s promises are true. His love is guaranteed. The preceding stanza tells us that. We cannot fathom it in this life. But one day we will know. We just need to stay close. Our part is to trust in Jesus. Through the good, bad, and the ugly.

I have seen my share of heartache. And I am sure those of you reading this have too or are going through it now. Jesus is the answer. He will forever be the answer. He is the Comforter. His love brings peace. It is tough to trust, but when you allow Him to lead, you will never be let down. Take a step closer to Him today. Take His hand and allow Him to draw you nearer.

I Am Thine, Oh Lord (Draw Me Nearer) – Fanny Crosby
