Moments for the Heart

Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Not sure what happened last week, but I didn’t have any visitors. With all the build up to the final conclusion of the court scene, I figured everyone would be excited to visit to see the finale. I know it happens with our busyness. And as of late, Weekend Writing Warriors has not been what it used to be. Well, I shouldn’t really say I didn’t have visitors. People could’ve have read the snippet, they just didn’t leave a comment. I never looked at the traffic through my website’s info. Best to you all and I hope you continue to enjoy these snippets.

SYNOPSIS:

Michael Andrews thought he was far removed from the events his father experienced twenty years ago. He heard the bedtime stories so often, he had driven them out and was barely speaking to his dad. Religion was the last thing he wanted, until it became the only thing that mattered.

A new threat arises; his wife is arrested for talking about God to the wrong person. Now Jacob Andrews may be his only hope. He must lean on him, Rachel’s attorney, and those who understand what occurred twenty years ago and may be happening now when an old adversary returns to wreak havoc, using federal laws to exact revenge on the Andrews family.

Will he succeed, or will justice prevail to set Rachel free?

SNIPPET:

Summary:
This Five Barred Gate sequel, is a Dystopian Suspense about what would it be like if freedom of expression liberties were taken from us. In this installment laws have gotten more strict. One could be arrested for simply speaking their mind if another chose to press charges. This multiplied for the Christian community. The laws were strict for Jacob in the first novel, now twenty years later, his son Michael must face his own battles.

–We move into a new section of our novel. Michael has attempted to see Rachel at the jail with no success. During his trip back to town, Michael sees that he is being followed. He pulls into a local body shop which is a safe haven for their group. Roger is the owner.–

Neither SUV saw Michael pull into the shop. And no one saw either of them the rest of the day. When Roger Mills pulled surveillance videos, the two SUVs had sped past the shop, none the wiser Michael had turned into Mills Motors.

“They would’ve known where he was heading,” Jacob said.

“Them speeding by could’ve been just a decoy. Knowing we would be reviewing the video,” Roger said. “By now, you would think they would know we would be watching them as they watch us.”

Jacob nodded. Then to Michael, “Where did you notice them following you, son?”

“I was up at the prison to see if I could see Rachel.”

“Bad idea,” Jacob said. “You know they won’t allow that. It just places her in further harm.”

“Says you, Dad. Things aren’t like they were then.”


::There is your ten, but let’s continue on and finish the thought.::


“And they aren’t bad now?” Jacob asked, his brows raised. “So, what happened?”

Michael sank lower into his chair and sipped his water. “They couldn’t find her.”

“Hmmph,” Jacob said in a fatherly confirmation tone.

“What does that mean?” Roger asked.

“It means that the guards were told not to allow any visitors,” Jacob answered.

“I don’t know, Dad,” Michael said, standing and pacing. “It seemed more than that. These guards didn’t seem like they were purposely trying to keep me away. It looked like they were honestly searching for her. If they were acting, it was convincing.”

“How so?” Jacob asked.

“If a guard were told to keep someone away, they would stonewall you. They wouldn’t take five minutes searching their computers trying to locate a prisoner.”

“He’s got a point,” Roger said.

“So, what are you suggesting?”

“I don’t know,” Michael said. “But I’m getting nervous. I was on my way to meet with Johnathan when I noticed my company. I tried to call him, but he didn’t answer. I need to call him, but wouldn’t they be able to track me if they are tracing his phone?”

Roger grinned. “Not when you’re calling from here. We are under a dome that scrambles the signal; they can’t trace your call. This location is a safe space for our team. I reinforced the garage when Pastor Eric was head of the church and upgraded when your father took over. If you didn’t know, this is where we first began to meet.”

“Yes, my dad has mentioned that. But he didn’t mention the security measures. So, I can call Johnathan [his attorney], and Edwards wouldn’t know where I am?”

“Nope,” Roger said. “The signal will bounce between the four towers in the area and make it seem like you are all over the place.” Roger laughed. “They would run in circles like jackrabbits.”

This scene goes back to the first novel and what what was set up through the events there. Jacob and Pastor Eric were pretty much hunted down by Official Edwards because of their faith. Now we have Rachel on trial because of how she was acting on her faith.
