Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Week two of NaNoWriMo and I am not as far as I would like to be. I am on track, but I wanted to be so much deeper. I did miss a day with the Election. I have also been working on my mother-in-laws car which has been giving me issues. Car makers deliberately put stuff in places where you can’t get to them unless you move other parts. It’s not like it used to be.
Elissa Celebrates Christmas and Elissa Learns Thankfulness are available through Amazon!! I’m too excited to offer both books side by side for the holidays. Pick up your copies today to get in time to read to your kiddos!!
SYNOPSIS:
With NaNoWriMo, I am taking you on the journey with me and giving you snippets from the book I’m writing. Keep in mind that these will be raw and unedited. So, excuse errors and grammar.
My piece for NaNoWriMo will be The Five Barred Gate III. Considering that The Five Barred Gate II will be released on January 5th, it would be my next logical piece to pen. Enjoy.
The Five Barred Gate is a dystopian world where the government has enacted laws against freedom of speech. This has hurt the religious community the most.
SNIPPET:
Summary:
The Five Barred Gate III picks where The Five Barred Gate II leaves off. Derrick Andrews is talking with his wife, Rachel, and feels he needs to go with is dad, Jacob, to Austin to talk with the authorities. They’ve been demanding Jacob to release his sermons for scrutiny before they are delivered from the pulpit. He has refused. Facing arrest, he now wants to make his appeal.
Here is a bit from last week.
“I’ve heard through a buddy that Kendrick Edwards is being charged with Federal crimes. Enough of the officers who arrested him saw his actions and heard his threats against you and your dad that no court in the world will be able to grant him clemency,” Frank Dunham said.
Jacob just nodded.
“What was it like down here?” Jacob asked.
“The fire?”
We continue right were we left off. Jacob is our main character. Frank Dunham is a business owner and friend. Derrick is Jacob’s son.
“No, the church. Before the fire.”
Frank scratched his stubbled chin and then looked back to the corner of the room. He stared at it as if he were looking into the past.
“You remember the days when we met in Roger’s garage?” Frank said.
“Yes,” Jacob said.
“It was much like that, but there were more of us.”
If Jacob wasn’t mistaken there were tears in the old man’s eyes. Then it hit him. The whole reason why Eric Lassiter ended up in the cell next to him.
::There is your ten, or so, but let’s continue a bit with the scene.::
“Eric’s family,” Jacob said.
“Among others. Will’s son attended. A handful of church faithful after Edwards had the church disbanded.”
“They never linked him to their car accident?”
“No. It was most likely one of his henchmen. They were too close to the vest to pay someone to do something so audacious.”
Jacob looked around the room. “I suppose same with the fire.”
“Yes. But here they made it look like faulty wiring. Police reports stated that it was vagrants and an illegal trash barrel. They didn’t want to give the spotlight to what Eric was doing.”
“Or what he was doing,” Jacob said.
Frank nodded, pointing his hat, “Exactly.”
“I know no one died here, but still, you can almost feel their spirits here. I don’t know. I just feel at peace.”
“Don’t go thinking that, my friend. Their spirits are in heaven. Remember to be away from the body is to be at home with the Lord. But I understand your meaning. This room does carry the air of the supernatural. Maybe that is why Eric chose it.”
The shuffling of feet came from the stairs behind the door, making both men jump. Frank reached for his back beltline.
“Whoever you are, you better identify yourself,” Frank announced. “I am armed and not afraid to employ my castle doctrine rights.”
Now a bit more clear on the fire. Once Edwards discovered the underground church, he sent his deputies to burn it, then somehow made it look like it was vagrants to hide his activity. There is more to it, a history between Edwards and Pastor Eric Lassiter. You can read all about it in the Five Barred Gate.
