Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Hope you have had an amazing week. Quick medical update. I met with my Urologist. The stone that was there is embedded in the kidney wall and covered by a neurofibroma. Urologist says it isn’t going anywhere so we don’t need to worry about it.

SYNOPSIS:
Michael Andrews thought he was far removed from the events his father experienced twenty years ago. He heard the bedtime stories so often, he had driven them out and was barely speaking to his dad. Religion was the last thing he wanted, until it became the only thing that mattered.
A new threat arises; his wife is arrested for talking about God to the wrong person. Now Jacob Andrews may be his only hope. He must lean on him, Rachel’s attorney, and those who understand what occurred twenty years ago and may be happening now when an old adversary returns to wreak havoc, using federal laws to exact revenge on the Andrews family.
Will he succeed, or will justice prevail to set Rachel free?
SNIPPET:
Summary:
This Five Barred Gate sequel, is a Dystopian Suspense about what would it be like if freedom of expression liberties were taken from us. In this installment laws have become more strict. One could be arrested for simply speaking their mind if another chose to press charges. This only multiplied within the Christian community. The laws were strict for Jacob in the first novel, now twenty four years later, his son Michael must face his own battles.
Last week Michael was eluding a couple of dark SUVs. He was on his way to the courthouse to meet with Johnathan.
“Johnathan. They are gone. I guess the traffic spooked them, or they felt they had made their statement.”
“You okay?”
“No. But yeah,” Michael said, hands sweating and digging into the wheel. “I’ll be there in a few minutes.” Michael disconnected the line and realized he was trembling. He wanted to pull over and recenter but didn’t want to give his visitors the opportunity to return. Finishing his trip and getting to the courthouse would be his best bet, where Johnathan and, better yet, witnesses would be
We are continuing on where we left off.
Luckily, a crosswalk in front of the building led to the courthouse. A group of suit-clad men stood around the light pole as the light above them turned yellow, then red. The crowd entered the intersection.
“Let’s go,” Michael said, taking control of their movement.
Johnathan followed close behind, nearly holding hands. “Michael. Calm down. We are fine. Those vehicles are gone now. If they are secretly following you, why would they show themselves in public?”
::There is your ten (or so), but let’s continue on for a moment.::
“I don’t want to take any chances. Who knows what their intentions are? If they were bold enough to corner me on the open highway….” Michael bumped into a briefcase-holding female in front of him, entering the building.
“Hey,” she hollered.
“Oh. Sorry, ma’am.” Michael stopped where he was, stepped aside from the path, and took a breath.
“You okay?” Johnathan said, placing his hand on Michael’s shoulder.
“Yeah. No. I don’t know.”
“You’re shaking,” Johnathan said.
“You would be too if you were nearly run down by those two trucks.”
“Yeah, I suppose you’re right. Let’s get inside and sit down.”
Michael and Johnathan found a coffee shop on the first floor and ordered. They sat as far away from the window as possible but with a view of it at Michael’s insistence.
“So, what happened exactly?” Johnathan finally asked after receiving their drinks, and Michael had a few sips.
“They appeared out of nowhere,” Michael began, then took a long sip. “I’m not sure. The next thing I knew, I was boxed in, and they wouldn’t let me speed up or slow down. We ran two lights. The one in front of the mill and the one just outside of town. Then they took the turnoff, and I lost sight of them. I thought they would appear again at the light, but I guess they didn’t take that left. That’s when I hightailed it here. I didn’t see them again.”
“Well, now we know one thing,” Johnathan said.
“What’s that?”
“The SUVs exist,” Johnathan shrugged.
“A helluva way to find out,” Michael chuckled. Glad for a little bit of levity.
“Now we have a problem, though. We know that there could be more to this than a simple arrest. Or Rachel’s arrest triggered something bigger.”
“You said her case was later on the docket?”
“Yeah, the last one for the day. There are three ahead of her. Two are jury trials, so who knows how long things could take. We may not even be seen today. It’s wait and see.”
“And hope the lenient judge we witnessed the other day makes a return. She sure did do a 180 when she saw Rachel’s case file, though. And she was peaking, like in code. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just paranoid.”
“No. You’re not. There was something odd about that hearing. I’m not looking forward to going back in there. I don’t know what to expect. And after what you just went through, I’m not sure I want to go in there.”
“But you/I have to,” they say in unison.
“Yeah,” Johnathan said.
Michael suddenly realized he was drinking coffee. He never drank coffee. It was always tea for him. He felt invigorated and took a breath, “Ok. It’s time to get back up there and see where we stand. We need to get you prepared. They most likely did this to shake us up. Let’s let them know they failed. We need to be strong for Rachel. She needs us; she needs you. I can’t be in there, but you can. So, let’s forget this morning happened and move on to what you are going to do when you step into that courtroom to outwit your opposition and bring Rachel home.”

And so the SUVs are real, but with unknown intent. Makes this all more ominous and as you say, could portend worse things for Michael and Rachel. Chilling development, to be sure.
