Hello fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. Getting into another week. Juggling so much that’s going on. If you have children, you know what I mean. Our last one is a Junior in High School. Then there is our twenty-somethings who are dealing with life. Jobs, schooling, and life situations. It seems like a whirlwind of activity lately. Carolyn is excelling at he new job and is loving every minute of it. And me? Just living every day, thanking God that I can be here to enjoy it.
You can follow me on social media, especially on Twitter, or X nowadays. I post all links, especially for my Two Twenty Two Tuesday YouTube vlog. I always have something going on, X is the best place to keep up. God bless, friends.
SYNOPSIS:
Detective Grady is haunted by the final events of the second novel through a series of nightmares. Fear drives him to ask his tech genius, Carmen, to begin monitoring all search engines, news sites, and social media platforms for crimes that resemble their case two years ago.
After another nightmare, Grady begins to see the department psychologist which helps him. Two weeks go by and Grady decides to ask Carmen to cancel the search, but that morning, Carmen has found something. This time in Mexico.
SNIPPET:
So far so good on the new novel. Although I’m not progressing as I should, but there is no rush. I have ideas and am writing, that is what matters. I’m staying ahead of what I will be posting here, so that is good. Let’s get back into it:
Here is the last bit from last week:
Grady relaxed his head on the pillow, but sleep eluded him, so he got up and showered and shaved. Elizabeth had not moved from the curled-up ball she slept in, so he chose not to stir her. He dressed as quietly as possible and went downstairs to make the coffee.
We pick up into the next scene. Grady has left his home and is arriving at the police station:
Grady swiped his badge, and the gate click allowed him onto the floor. Carmen was at her normal station, all her screens active and her fingers busy giving them something to do.
“Good morning, Boss,” Carmen said without looking up.
“You know it’s me by a badge click?” Grady said.
“No, LaCrosse is already here,” she said, pointing to the station behind her. “LaCrosse is already here. You two are the only ones ever here this early.”
“Granted,” Grady said. “You look like you have something.”
There is your ten, or so. Let’s continue on for a bit more.
“Maybe,” Carmen finally made eye contact with him. With a head wave, she beckoned him over.
“Whatcha got?”
“I’m not sure yet, but it could be something,” Carmen had on once screen a list of hotel names and on another what appeared to be digital receipts from two Pilot truck stops. One from Atlanta, the other Knoxville.
“What are we looking at?” Grady said.
“Hold on a sec,” Carmen said. “There’s more.” Carmen made a couple of clicks, and her third screen played a video of the fuel island at the Pilot in Atlanta. The blue pearl Honda Pilot they had been intently searching for for the last six months pulled up to a pump. A man in a dark jacket and ballcap, pulled low over his face, stepped out and into the store.
“You wouldn’t have internal images, would you?”
“Working on it. I just found this this morning; it was all the company gave me access to. They said that if I found a fuel stop that matched our vehicle, they could grant me internal store video access.”
“Makes sense. Saves everyone time,” Grady said with a shrug.
“I hope they are as quick with footage as they were with this access,” Carmen said. The video played out as the ball-capped man completed his fuel stop and drove off.
“Do we see which way he went?”
“Heh. North,” Carmen snorted. “Sorry, that’s the best I can do.”
“And we still don’t have any access to the vehicle’s tracking devices?”
“No. Whatever the vehicle came with, he knew enough about the car to disable it. He’s a ghost.”
Remember… rough draft. I’ve made a few edits as I posted this… eesh.
I posted this on my Twitter feed this week. I find it amazing how the writing process works. We can write a detail in chapter one, then in a later chapter, it reappears unintentionally writing something that directly connects to that scene. Just wow!! This ever happen in your writing?

I like Carmen’s awareness of the office, she seems to be a efficient staff member to have.
