Hello fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. I can’t believe it’s already going to be September. It will be an interesting week for me. I hope I get the time to post next week, but if I don’t, here’s why. My daughter will be having her 17th birthday celebration. We had meant to do a sweet 16 last year, but so many things happened it didn’t happen. Life is precious my friends, take every moment for what it’s worth. This should be fun for her and her friends.
You can follow me on social media, especially on Twitter, or X nowadays. I post all links, especially for my Two Twenty Two Tuesday YouTube vlog. I always have something going on, X is the best place to keep up. God bless, friends.
SYNOPSIS:
Detective Grady is haunted by the final events of the second novel through a series of nightmares. Fear drives him to ask his tech genius, Carmen, to begin monitoring all search engines, news sites, and social media platforms for crimes that resemble their case two years ago.
After another nightmare, Grady begins to see the department psychologist which helps him. Two weeks go by and Grady decides to ask Carmen to cancel the search, but that morning, Carmen has found something. This time in Mexico.
SNIPPET:
Still writing day by day. A couple more chapters written. Let’s get back into it:
Here is the last bit from last week:
“Do we see which way he went?”
“Heh. North,” Carmen snorted. “Sorry, that’s the best I can do.”
“And we still don’t have any access to the vehicle’s tracking devices?”
“No. Whatever the vehicle came with, he knew enough about the car to disable it. He’s a ghost.”
We pick up right where we left off:
“Do we have a clue why he’s heading that way? Family, friends perhaps? Have we done a history on him? Social media posts, maybe?”
“I’ve been monitoring his online activity since day one. Unless he’s created another account, he has gone internet silent. Even his email activity has been silent. He just receives your typical spam emails for insurance and hair loss cream,” Carmen said, bringing up his Gmail account. It showed the predicted nothing new.
There is your ten, or so. Let’s continue on for a bit more.
“Thanks, Carmen. Keep me posted,” Grady said with a pat on her shoulder. “I’m gonna check on LaCrosse.”
It had been a brutal year for their team. While it was still intact, it did not go without its incidents. Nine months ago, during a hostage standoff, the perpetrator took a shot at their team. The bullet passed through the door behind where he and LaCrosse were staged, and it hit LaCrosse in the shoulder. It missed the joint by centimeters. He was in rehab for months, and while he doesn’t admit it, you can tell he still experiences pain. LaCrosse is just as… was tenured as Masters. There is mileage to his injury. Grady knows that retirement is just around the corner. Even Atwood has discussed him still swiping his badge on the floor.
Grady caught LaCrosse rubbing his shoulder. He quickly adjusted his posture at Grady’s address, “Good morning, Antony. Guess you beat me here.” Grady tossed a ten-dollar bill on his desk.
LaCrosse grinned, grooming his peppered mustache. “Always a pleasure,” He said, sticking the bill in his jacket inner pocket.
“On a side note, I’m not late today.”
“I still arrived before you, Boss,” LaCrosse said.
In an effort to help Grady’s tendency for tardiness, he and his second in command made a deal. If he arrived late, he would owe LaCrosse ten dollars. If he were on time, LaCrosse would be awarded ten. This has been going on for close to a year now. Grady was doing well for a couple of months, but as with all good intentions, old habits resurfaced. To date, LaCrosse could’ve made a decent down payment on a new vehicle.
“Tomorrow’s another day,” Grady said. He knew it was just a game now. And it wasn’t so much the money. It was the accountability and appearance. He was grateful for it, and the team didn’t see it, at least he didn’t think they did.
I need to be better with keeping a writing schedule just as Grady needs to be with keeping to his schedule. I hope you are enjoying what you’ve read so far. Catch you next week. God bless, friends.
