Hello fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. Happy Fall Y’all. Well, for those of is in the south, summer never really ends. It’s just a cooler form of it, if you can call it that. We just get a better chance of rain. Although this year we have had a bit more rain than we’ve had in past years. Are you happy for fall and what’s it like in your neck of the woods?

SYNOPSIS:
Detective Grady is haunted by the final events of the second novel through a series of nightmares. Fear drives him to ask his tech genius, Carmen, to begin monitoring all search engines, news sites, and social media platforms for crimes that resemble their case two years ago.
After another nightmare, Grady begins to see the department psychologist which helps him. Two weeks go by and Grady decides to ask Carmen to cancel the search, but that morning, Carmen has found something. This time in Mexico.
SNIPPET:
Still writing day by day. A couple more chapters written. Let’s get back into it:
Here is the last bit from last week:
“The algorithm now has his vehicle in its memory. It will be easier to identify instead of guessing,” Carmen said. “The new cams we have are of I75 N, on your screen, and HWY 441 N, on mine, just in case he likes the scenic route. Cover all our bases.”
“We are moving away from Knoxville though, right?”
“Yes. You have I 75, I am on 441. You have 8 cams on your four screens, they will alternate four, then four for an hour. So, keep your eyes focused.”
We pick up right were we left off. Carmen and Ryan are searching highway cameras for their suspect:
Ryan gave affirmation, not looking up. “Can I click through them? Like before?”
Carmen handed him the remote and Ryan pointed at his monitor; his view changed and he nodded.
“THP is on scene at the station,” Grady said. Ryan glanced up he saw the flashing lights next to the still image.
“We can only hope they have more units already on the highway,” Ryan said, clicking his remote. If the highway was traffic free he clicked through it, the algorithm helped alert him to moving vehicles. It was especially sensitive to the make and model they have in the system already.
There is your ten, or so. Let’s continue on for a bit more.
Ryan watched the oranges that lit up the possibilities, which weren’t many. While he was grateful they gave them to him, he would much prefer to watch the screen unaided. But he wasn’t sure how Carmen, or Grady who was peering over his shoulder would react, so he continued to watch through the colored squares.
He occasionally glanced over at Carmen’s screen. Hers was empty. By taking the alternate highway there were few cars. She also didn’t have to click.
Carmen finally spoke. “I have calculated his estimated departure time and speed. This will give us our estimated time we should see him, and time we should switch cameras to the next stretch of highway.”
“You mean these cameras can miss him?” Grady joshed. “You don’t say.”
“C’mon, Boss. Cut us some slack. We’re doing our best.”
Ryan just listened, his eyes never leaving his screen. He was not going to let that vehicle get by him. It was true, that car could get by simply through him switching his screen at just the right time. Or by Lockhart taking a side road that did not have cameras. Then all of this would be for nothing.
Ryan glanced at Carmen’s nudge to his shoulder. “I’m talking to you.”
“Sorry, what?”
“I was telling Grady that you and I never miss a thing,” Carmen said with scowl.
Grady was laughing, “Well, there ya go.”
“That’s what I’m trying not to do, miss something. I take my eyes off this screen, and I could miss that Honda.”
“Well, there’s that,” Grady said. “What do you see, Detective?”
“I wish I had something to report, Boss. There’s just—”
A yellow box lit up on Ryan’s screen.
Finding new clues and getting a breakthrough now. Could this lead to something? One step leads to another. One thing I love about being a Plantster is that my story is never set in stone. I don’t have an outline that I feel I must follow. BUT it all still seems to connect. Like there is a outer influence at work. During this progression I found that a later scene connected to these scenes unintentionally. It was beautiful. And now it all flows through the process of writing. I love how writing works.
