Weekend Writing Warriors 8 – 3/15/2020 – The Five Barred Gate

Welcome back, Weekend Writing Warriors. I hope you enjoyed last weeks entry of my Dystopian Suspense novel The Five Barred Gate. This novel is set in a world where it is illegal to be offensive. There are federal laws against saying certain things, especially against those in authority. To violate the law brings legal consequences.

This week I am going to jump ahead a bit. Jacob has been released. He hasn’t heard anything from Eric, until this morning when his name was mentioned. Now he is keeping his eyes peeled for a man he has never seen, but only heard through a cell window.

So with that in mind, here are my eight:

[Jacob] parked his pickup in the Service Department Only slot and walked over to the open bay. He could hear Roger under the hood, working with a socket wrench, cussing a stuck nut.

“Hey Roger.”

Roger stepped out from under the hood. “Oh, hey, Jacob. Wasn’t expecting you. What can I do for you?”

“I’m looking for the owner of this fine Buick.”

“Jessica said he called and said he was running a bit late,” Roger said, wiping his hands on a rag. “He should be along any time now.”

“So, are you admiring my classic, Jacob?”

Jacob recognized the voice instantly, and he was almost too nervous to turn around.
