Welcome back, Weekend Writing Warriors. Here we go. We left you hanging last week off a pretty good cliff. What could Renae’s news bring? Jacob has not seen her in a three months, longer if you consider their separation. What damage could have been done during this time? And could there be a possibility of reparation after this bomb is dropped? And better yet… is Edwards involved somehow?
Without any further delay, let’s get into it. First here is where we left off last week:
——-
“What?” she asked, unsure of the intent behind his smile.
“I’ve missed you, Renae.”
“Look,” she started, refusing to meet his eyes. “There is something you need to know.”
The Five Barred Gate Synopsis:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Non-Offensive Movement in the United States became federal law? What would happen to the freedoms guaranteed to us through the Constitution? This is the story of Jacob Andrews. He is faced with the decision to follow his heart and disregard what the law says about how he should live; even if it means his life.
SNIPPET:
This can’t be good, he thought, but remained silent, waiting.
“Jacob,” Renae fumbled with trying to find the right words. “You may not know this; I’m sure you don’t know, or we wouldn’t be having this conversation.” She paused and drew in a deep breath. “Look, there’s no easy way to say this, so I’m going to come right out an say it. For the last month or so I’ve been kinda seeing someone.”
“What?!”
“Jake, you have to understand. I thought you were dead.”
“Wait. Dead? How? Why?” he stumbled over his words. “What would make you think I was dead?”
***Well Mighty Warriors that is this week’s snippet. I was debating on not using the relaxed rules to pursue more. Still getting used to breaking the law. But, curiosity won over, so here you go…***
“[After our argument] I was told you were being taken to county lock-up. I put your truck in daddy’s garage to keep them from towing it, and a day or so later, I drove it back to your place. I let myself in so I could leave the keys inside. You have to understand how angry I was with you. I went through some of your things, and I found your coffee can, just like the one we used to keep at the house. So… I took the money from it to help with Michael. A week later I got a call saying you were killed while trying to escape.”
Jacob forced his jaw closed. He sat stunned for a long moment before he could find any words to say.
“Who called you?” he said at last. “Who told you I was dead?”
* * *
Well, you guessed it, the BF bomb was dropped. But what is this? Someone passing on information that Jacob had tried to escape only a week into his three month sentence? Very interesting. But who is this mysterious leaker? and who is this new beau?

Hmm. Is a guy’s dying sufficient reason to date someone else? Under most circumstances, I’d have to say yes.

Hahaha. Yes, I would guess so. I will have to admit though, in retrospect, my timeline here is a bit screwy. I mean moving on three months after a death… come on. But it does make sense though. You do have to know the full story to understand though.

Wow– who would benefit from that lie?
Jeff- lol–so you replace one cliffhanger with yet another???
You are a master of the art, for sure.

Who indeed. And if I haven’t said it before, you are the enabler for these cliffhangers to exist.

Uh oh. A snake is in the garden (or some such goofy axiom). Someone wanted to break them up. Bet it’s the new boyfriend. I’d think she would’ve waited longer than 3 months, though.

True, three months is a short time, but there is a reason for such… ease of movement.

I’m with Teresa here, who benefits from his death? Why derail this guy’s relationship for nothing? You really like these cliff hangers don’t you.. but god it’s killing me! Can’t wait to read more!

Who benefits, indeed. Yes, I love leaving something in the air, the big …dum, dum, duummmmm, moment. Wont have to wait long. Saturday will be here before you know it. Who knows, there just might be one more up my sleeve.

A lot of events in one snippet! These two obviously have a complicated history (although she moved on after his ‘death’ in a month?)…enjoyed the excerpt. It advanced the story right along and raised many questions inagoodway!

Yes, in retrospect it was a bit hasty. But I had to move the story along. But there are reasons it was such an easy transition… tune in to find out…

My money (or rather HIS money!) is on the new beau. No wonder she was so surprised.

Maybe, maybe not. We shall see in this week’s snippet.

Who would want to pretend he’d died? Curious.

Someone with ulterior motives perhaps.

Wow, this definitely took a turn I wasn’t expecting! I’m looking forward to learning more about these two and their past, and finding out who’s trying to ruin any possibility of a future between them.

I think for Jacob as well. They have a bearutiful past, but hit some rocks, as we see here. There are reasons why they hit these rocks though.
