Welcome back, Weekend Writing Warriors. Haha, another cliffhanger last week. The new beau in her life was just the beginning of the bad news Jacob received. It seems that there is more to this than meets the eye. Is it a simple mistake, or deliberate conniving sabotage? And if it is? Then why?
No sense keeping you waiting, let’s get into it. First here is where we left off last week:
——-
A week later I got a call saying you were killed while trying to escape.”
Jacob forced his jaw closed. He sat stunned for a long moment before he could find any words to say.
“Who called you?” he said at last. “Who told you I was dead?”
The Five Barred Gate Synopsis:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Non-Offensive Movement in the United States became federal law? What would happen to the freedoms guaranteed to us through the Constitution? This is the story of Jacob Andrews. He is faced with the decision to follow his heart and disregard what the law says about how he should live; even if it means his life.
SNIPPET:
“I don’t remember his name. Edwin, Eldrige, something like that.”
“Edwards?”
“I don’t know, maybe.” A tear leaked down her face and trickled down her chin.
Jacob nodded, trying to control his emotions and stifle the raging of his old nature.
“And who are you… seeing?”
“He’s been a friend to me, Jacob.” He was there through most of what happened after we separated. Then he was there after you were arrested. And, he was there when word came that you were dead.”
***Well Mighty Warriors that is this week’s snippet. Thanks to the new relaxed setting, here is the rest of the chapter.***
“Well, obviously, as you can clearly see, I am not dead.”
“Yes, obviously. When Daddy heard that you were being released, he called me. As you can imagine, I was in shock. You were gone. You were dead. I had reconciled myself to that. Then to hear you’re alive? And to see you–alive? I’m confused and I don’t even know how I’m supposed to feel.”
“Renae, who are you seeing?”
Jacob wasn’t sure what name he expected to hear, but it wasn’t the one Renae said. His heart shattered into a million pieces when she said, “I’m involved with Jesse. Jesse Durrant.”
Who? Who is Jesse Durrant? That is the big question. It is clear that Jacob knows who this man is. But how? And better yet, why did Edwards tell Renae that Jacob was killed when he was “safe” in his cell? Hmmmm, more questions indeed.

He has had control issues before. This just shows how much the change that occurred in him has affected his attitude.
