Weekend Writing Warriors – 9/3/23 – The Transference II – Intro – The Meeting

Hey Weekend Writing Warriors. You know the saying burning a candle at both ends and no wax in the middle. Well that pretty much sums up my week. Been busy, busy, busy. Trying to fix my wife’s car, maintain my writing job with meeting deadlines, and assisting with the myriad of things I assist with that I enjoy doing. Some things get put off unfortunately. I am sure most of you can relate. I can see a bit of light on the horizon, writing projects wrap up tomorrow and Sunday is on the way. My day of rest.

Again, speaking of timing, It is time for our snippet. We will begin with Page One of my new project, The Transference II.

I am excited to revisit Detective James Grady’s world, and the Crime Thriller genre. You can read all about this book here.

SYNOPSIS:

Given that I am only four chapters in, I am still working on a full synopsis:
This book will take place roughly four years after the events of the first book.

Masters has retired and Grady now leads the team. All seems well until a series of murders take place that resemble the killings four years ago. Grady receives a call from Masters that he has discovered something at a local warehouse. A gun runner is using a long forgotten facility. Are the two events related? As the team is split between the two events that are tearing apart their city, it is a matter of time before an old enemy resurfaces and extends a challenge none of them expects.

SNIPPET:

Summary:
With there being no summary, I will give you a run down of what the first book, The Transference was about.

In the first novel, Lt. Daniel Masters was the head of a Major Crimes division. Detective James “Grady” Gradiosa moved to Savannah with his wife from Atlanta. Grady and Masters begin to investigate a string of gruesome murders in the area. The killer, they discover, was ritualistic. He would kill three victims, then leave the fourth victim alive, transferring his essence (unknown to anyone) into the new host as he commit suicide by cop. Then continue the killing spree all over again. The team figured out a way to defeat the killer.

In our first week we will begin with Page One, Chapter One. Well, this will probably end up being a Prologue since it will take place at a period of time before Chapter Two. I am still disputing at how much time will pass. As a reminder, this will be my NaNoWriMo project, so this is very rough and has not seen a red pen yet. So please bear with me, and any critique is welcome.

So here we go:

The couple walked, well one did, the other sat in his wheelchair. A woman with shoulder-length dark hair guided her companion across the concrete floor. The room reeked of machine oil and dust, but it was the furthest structure on the facility. The team preferred to handle their business here for privacy. The fear it placed in their clients was another – they wouldn’t know if it would be their last. However, they were not a lethal pair. Money was their vice. They didn’t even do the stuff they were selling.

“That’s far enough,” the woman told the weakened pair approaching them.

::There is your ten (or so). Here is a bit more.::

They were your typical runners. Not the bosses or the dealers; they were too smart to show their faces. These were the expendables, and they knew it. These two must’ve been paid well to keep doing the job as they were familiar faces to her.

“Leave the cash in the bag next to the barrel. The goods are in two duffle bags in the same place you picked them up last week.”

“Don’t you want to count it?” the one on the left said, holding the bag out toward her.

“Don’t worry, we will. You won’t make it out of the facility alive if it is a dollar off. Why do you think we meet in this warehouse and not one nearer the highway?” she gave a slight laugh.

The one on the right was visibly shaken. Either he didn’t count the money himself, or they were attempting to deceive her. Time will tell.

“Let’s make this quick,” the woman said. “We haven’t all day. Mr. Greer and I have plans.”

“Yes, ma’am,” the thinner one on the right said, swiping at his buddy’s arm. He tossed the bag, and it landed a couple feet in front of him. The skid echoed off the empty metal walls. Both then turned and fast-walked toward the entrance.

Once they were out of the factory, the woman looked down at Mr. Greer, “I’ll be right back.”

The dark-haired woman was careful as she approached the bag. She looked back to the entrance they had entered, the one her visitors had left through, then up to the four skylights that let in the setting sun. The orange glow flooded the hangar, casting dust beams through the empty space. She knew she was clear; fear would drive those boys away. Fear of her position or fear of the bag they dropped being short.

“Grab the bag, and let’s go,” Mr. Greer finally spoke, then coughed. “This place gives me the creeps.”

The woman laughed, then, swallowed hard, “Greer, C’mon. Stay in character until we are back in the van.”

“Gotcha, Sophia.” Mr. Greer smiled.

THIS WEEK’S WRAP-UP:

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT:
Thanks for reading this week. And for your continued support.

Okay, yes I am lazy to the max. Yes, there is going to be another Little Reminders. You have helped me out with naming the book. It will be released on October 26. And I believe the final title will be… Little Reminders of Who I Will Become. I had to go with the overall theme of the titles ‘I Will’ flow. It was just a matter of what the final word was going to be. And after much debate, we feel, ‘become’ would be the best option. Now just the test to get it on the cover. Wish up luck…

Catch up with everything even writing a blog. You can read it here, Please check it out.

    1. I had always told me that The Transference would be a stand alone. But my dreams get the best of me. And after two of them told me to write a sequel, I have to be obedient to the call.
