Weekend Writing Warriors – 9/24/23 – The Transference II – Heading to the Station

Good day, fellow Weekend Writing Warriors. Another week, another snippet. We continue in The Transference II this week. I am still writing here and there as I can between writing gigs. I am jumpstarting NaNoWriMo with this project, but with NaNo being only 50K and my last Transference novel being almost 90K, I have wiggle room. I currently sit around 15K. I am hitting a stride though, but it is hindered with responsibilities. Job and family. But such is life. It is the joys each of us share as a writer.

Well, without any more rambling, let’s get to our snippet. We are continuing in Chapter one of The Transference II. I am loving writing this Crime Thriller genre. You can read all about this book here.

You can catch up on past snippets here.

SYNOPSIS:

Given that I am only four chapters in, I am still working on a full synopsis:
This book will take place roughly four years after the events of the first book.

Masters has retired and Grady now leads the team. All seems well until a series of murders take place that resemble the killings four years ago. Grady receives a call from Masters that he has discovered something at a local warehouse. A gun runner is using a long forgotten facility. Are the two events related? As the team is split between the two events that are tearing apart their city, it is a matter of time before an old enemy resurfaces and extends a challenge none of them expects.

SNIPPET:

Last week we left Grady speaking with Carmen, the teams Tech expert. She has information for the team that needs to be heard.

First, here is a the tail end of last week’s entry:

“I would rather you be here for this, Grady.”

“10-4. I’m en route.”

“And Grade.”

“Yeah?”

“You know you’re Boss now. You know that, right?”

Grady sighed. It was the one thing he was still getting used to. It had been six months, but having the team call him ‘Boss’ was still hard on the ears.

“Yes, I hear ya,” Grady said. “I’m on my way.”

::Last week’s entry ended a scene. We pickup in the following scene.::

Technology had never been one of Masters strong suits. He even hated the flip phone he was simi-fond of using, which usually went straight to voicemail. He had gone through dozens of them in his tenure at the Savannah department. Grady didn’t how many before then. Atwood would know, she handled all recs for the department and reprimands for excessive use of department resources.

The next call Grady placed was to LaCrosse. He answered in two rings.

“Hey Grady. What can I do you for?”

“Good morning, LaCrosse. Have you heard from Masters? He’s not answering his phone, and both Carmen and I have tried. I was supposed to meet him at Gino’s, but he was a no-show.”

::There is your ten (or so). Here is a bit more to finish the scene.::

“Interesting,” LaCrosse said.

“How’s that?”

“Well, we met last night, and he seemed a bit distracted. We shot some pool, and I beat him three of four games. That’s unheard of. Usually, he wipes the table with me.”

“Did he make or receive any calls?”

“Just one. Right before his losing streak, now that I think about it.”

“He didn’t say who it was?”

“He said it was you. Telling him you were going to be late. Again,” LaCrosse said.

Grady accepted the added message. Now he knew his tardiness was noticed. He would have to address his habits but now was not the time. There were more pressing issues.

“No, it wasn’t me. I hadn’t spoken to him all weekend. He wasn’t at church on Sunday, either. Any idea who else it could’ve been?”

“Not a clue. I took him at his word. He played it off well. Rode you and missed a shot or two.”

Grady snickered.

“But I guess I never really picked up on his turn of luck. I was just excited that I was beating the boss and winning all the money I had lost.”

“Do you know where he was headed after you left the bar or his plans for today?”

“As far as I know, he was headed home. He didn’t say anything about going anywhere else. Or meeting you. I know that’ll be your next question.”

“Where are you now?” Grady asked.

“Probably same as you, heading to the station.”

“10-4. We’ll talk more there. See you soon,” Grady said and disconnected the line.
