SYNOPSIS:

Given that I am only four chapters in, I am still working on a full synopsis:
This book will take place roughly four years after the events of the first book.

Masters has retired and Grady now leads the team. All seems well until a series of murders take place that resemble the killings four years ago. Grady receives a call from Masters that he has discovered something at a local warehouse. A gun runner is using a long forgotten facility. Are the two events related? As the team is split between the two events that are tearing apart their city, it is a matter of time before an old enemy resurfaces and extends a challenge none of them expects.

SNIPPET:

Here we go moving along. We are jumping ahead just a bit this week. Grady completes his call with Atwood and she does what she does as boss and the team now can do their job.

First, here is a the tail end of last week’s entry:

“Sorry. I’m just falling short of living up to my image.”

“Allow me,” Grady said. He stepped away from Carmen and dialed a saved number on his phone. It rang twice, and a raspy voice answered.

“Hey, sweetie,” Grady said.

“You know I sure in the hell wouldn’t take it from your sandy-headed predecessor. I sure in the hell won’t take it from you, short round,” Atwood said.

“Just messing with you, Sarge,” Grady said with a coy laugh. “Can you help a guy out?”

“Well, you sure didn’t start well. But what’s your need?”

::Last week’s entry ended with Grady calling in a favor from his Sargent. Within moments Carmen is getting calls from the departments with the info she is looking for. We now move into the next section. The team is ready to meet and Carmen is presenting the info she received.::

Officer-in-training Allen flipped through his notes, “Sergeant Atwood stated that patrols will be increased along the Rampart district as well as the districts surrounding where the latest murder had occurred.”

“Is that all?”

“Yes. All that pertains to our case, Detective Grady.”

Grady nodded. Allen had proven to be an excellent note-taker. He had tested him. Allen had learned to cut through the BS and get to what their team needed, the information that only benefited their floor. LaCrosse beamed; Allen was his prodigy. All successes would go on his record. Grady almost broke character and gave into laughter, but held it in.

“Excellent job. Thank you for your report.”

::There is your ten (or so). Here is a bit more to finish the scene.::

“But,” the newbie added. “Permission to speak freely?”

Grady gritted his teeth. Those comments never ended well, “Go ahead.”

“I’ve read up on the previous case three years ago,” Allen began. “Why should we expect patrols to reveal this person’s whereabouts? From what I’ve read, this perpetrator likes to hide. Shouldn’t we search specific locations based on the case files, not just random patrols?

Grady’s doubt turned to pride. Allen had done quite a bit of homework in such a little bit of time. He looked up at LaCrosse, who shrugged. It wasn’t his doing. Allen had done it on his own.

“That makes a lot of sense, Allen. We need to expand our parameters. You’re right. Simple patrols will not find this perpetrator. Our officers are spread thin enough. This is where we need to look over every lead we have and examine the most probable. We all know what happened five years ago and how Tanner eluded us for so long. Let’s take that experience and use it to our advantage.”

Carmen stepped over with a new sense of purpose. “With the information I was given from all precincts involved, I’ve narrowed down the timeline of what happened. I only wish it was something new.”

Carmen clicked her handheld device, and the screens along the wall them lit up.

“Okay,” Carmen began. “We all remember, unfortunately, what occurred in our city four years ago. So, I will spare you images of what Tanner did and just get to what we are seeing today.” Carmen clicked on her remote. “Approximately one month ago, Stephanie Amanda Tristan, 25, was murdered in her apartment. I don’t need to explain how she was found. Since then, three murders have been committed. All varying demographics.

“But, I don’t need to explain that each of these victims lived the exact same lives, alone, with no friends, very little family. They worked, had no social life, and no one would notice if they simply disappeared. Sound familiar?” Carmen clicked and the screen showed three crime scenes.

Everyone nodded.

“Didn’t Tanner have four victims?” Nettles said. “Well, including the whole moving on deal.”

“Good eye, Detective. Yes. The transference. Tanner had a fourth victim that would be rushed to the hospital and live. Now, prepare yourselves campers.” Carmen said, then clicked her handheld device once more. The screens filled with images of the final murder scene, only there was one common theme. No body.

“Are we seeing what we think we are seeing, Carmen,” Nettles said.

“Yep,” Carmen said, clicking through over a dozen images.

“No body?” Ryan questioned.

“Again, before you ask, no, it was not moved by any authority before these images were taken. I have been on the phone for the last twelve hours with the hospital, the coroner, and the paramedic team that arrived on scene. There was no body upon arrival.”

Da-da-dumm. Here is where the tides turn from how everything went in the first novel. Questions begin to rise and the who, what, when, and how will soon take over. It should be fun to write. I know I am excited to get there. I have most of it in my head, I just need to write it now.

THIS WEEK’S WRAP-UP:

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT:
Thanks for reading this week. And for your continued support.

We are just days away from the release of Little Reminder of Who I Will Become. Our release date is October 25. I look to do a give away over on Twitter soon. If I can get books in hand. Trying to work out the finances. I have a book signing coming up mid-November that pairs with a Food Drive for our local community. I usually do this with my book releases. I love being able to give back. I am excited for this event. More to come…

On another note, our oldest son turns 30 today. 30. Yeah… 30. I officially can call myself old. I can’t believe he has grown so much.

Catch up with everything even my blogs. You can read them here.
Here’s to living the dream. God bless, Writing Warriors.

  1. Lots of great details about the case. Sometimes you can get a lot out of someone asking to speak freely, even though it’s true that generally everyone is thinking ‘oh no, here it comes!’
