I often use our Pastor’s illustrations in my blogs. It is just things that hit me and make a difference in my life, in my walk. As it should, I suppose. It is the reason God places the messages in a Pastor’s heart, to reach souls. A few weeks ago, he dropped this gem on us, “If we could see the whole picture, then it’s no longer faith.” Wow, what truth is this statement.
We often pray for God to shed light on our situation, or worse we more often choose not to move until God shows us which way to go. Whatever that may be. It could be making a life decision or which shirt to wear; the point is we choose to wait until the skies part and the light shines on the yes or no, or this way or that. But is this truly the correct way faith works?
How did it work for Moses and the Red Sea? Did he wait for the sea to start moving before he raised his staff? Did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego wait for the fourth man in the fire to wave them in before they entered the furnace? What about the disciples, Pentecost came to the disciples when they demonstrated their faith and gathered together. They couldn’t see what would happen beyond what had just occurred with Jesus’ death, they just obeyed, “Stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes.”
We too must have faith. We will never see the whole picture, sometimes not even the next step. But we are called to follow Him. The greatest thing is that He promised, the Holy Spirit to guide us. God has promised never to abandon us. We just need to take that step of faith when we are surrounded by the unknown. Whether it is raising a staff, or stepping into the fire, God knows best. And our victory on the other side will be something we can celebrate.
