I just don’t understand what we are subjecting ourselves and the future generation to. It is sad that we constantly fill our minds with what society considers the norm and then wonder why our kids act out or where all this activity comes from. “Well, we don’t teach that in our home.” Well, that may be the case, but the TV, radio, and streaming services certainly are.
I can’t tell you how many times today I heard the censor beep across the streaming service I listen to. Now it is not from the service blocking the content of the advertiser. It is from the advertiser intentionally writing the ad with swearing built-in or the idea of it, placing it behind a beep. Some even use celebrities. Why can’t products and services sell their goods in a clean manner? It’s not like, “Ohh. I’m going to buy product ‘x’ because they used this word in it.”
Not only that, but what is it teaching the young child that is in the car with us when they ask what that beep means?
Yes, true, our kids probably hear these words at school and from friends. Yet, as parents, we can do our best to control to an extent through proper parenting. However, it becomes much more difficult when the car ride further indoctrinates them. OR podcasts or streaming service commercials are filled with these allowances. And don’t get me started on fill-in words like ‘cheese and sprinkles.’
The Bible teaches not to conform to the patterns of the world. However, when we have a barrage of sinful patterns hitting us from every side, that becomes difficult.
So, friends, we must do what we must do to overcome what we see and what we hear. It is frustrating. Does that mean to turn off what we are listening to or watching? If it is causing you to sin, then perhaps that may be the answer. Jesus teaches that if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. He doesn’t mean to literally gouge your eye out, just to deal with sin as drastically as needed.
I am distressed by how far this world is stepping over the line at what it calls decent. And we as Christians need to take a stand. In this world and especially in our homes. We will be held accountable. Don’t conform to this world. When we begin to look like the world, the light we are supposed to shine for Christ begins to dim, and eventually will not be seen.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2
