Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Hey everyone. Wrapping up another week of getting things done with my Elissa Thanksgiving book. Since my client’s had no work for me (major Booo) I delved into getting this wrapped up. Still fully waiting for Amazon to catch up with the new ISBN, they still have the old books available so they haven’t switched over yet. The only difference is the book size. I am going from a 8×12 to and 8×10 to go along with the other books in the series.
As far as Elissa Celebrates Christmas goes, she is available and NOW Elissa Learns Thankfulness is available beside it. I’m too excited to offer both books side by side for the holidays.
Thanks for your support through everything; Let’s get into this week’s adventure. Aaron coming back to the office and updating his coworkers on his progress.
SYNOPSIS:
Aaron Stephenson loves his job. As food critic for the popular Houston Gazette, he gets to sample the best cuisine at the finest eateries in Houston without paying a dime. And because there are so many great restaurants in Houston, he doesn’t have to visit the same establishment twice… unless he wants to.
But when Aaron stops in at Davies Deli, a non-descript, off-the-beaten-path, family-owned diner, he suddenly realizes he wants to come back;
But it has to do more with the owners’ brown haired, green eyed daughter, Deborah than the delicious food.
Aaron and Deborah feel a mutual attraction. But Deborah has a secret that could change everything.
And then there is Carter…

Summary:
This love story novel was born out of a dream I had about an angel leaving nick knacks behind for a couple to find as they walked through an amusement park together. They were reminders about them being a couple because they were struggling. Them finding these ‘little reminders’ drew them back together. The novel also has a dual storyline, in that the MC also has a struggle with their relationship with God, so they are also being drawn back to Him as well. The diner idea came from my personal love for food, writing some of the book sitting in a Denny’s, and working in kitchens for almost 10 years.
Here is a bit from last week.
“So, where will we be going?”
“Well, that’s the interesting part?”
“How’s that?”
He smiled and looked at his watch. He glanced over his shoulder as Clarence walked into the deli. “You’ll see on Friday. It’s a surprise.” He nodded over to the older gentleman sitting down. “I’ll let you get back to your customers. See you on Friday.” He raised his tea cup as a goodbye and headed to the door.
She watched him walk out the door and spoke to Clarence, “Have the Reuben, it’s amazing.” It made her giggle.
We are picking up right where we left off. Deborah is ‘not keeping him waiting’. Let’s see how this goes.
Aaron could feel the electricity flowing through his body. It carried him back to his jeep, then to the paper, past Jessica, and into his office. He did not see or hear anything. He floated in a dreamy state, and completely missed Nate knocking on his door.
“What happened to you?” he asked.
Aaron smiled.
“You look like a man who has a date.”
“It’s the strangest thing. I didn’t say a word,” Aaron stood and paced his small office. “She seemed to avoid me all afternoon. Then she just appeared, said yes, and we are going out on Friday.”
“What about Dallas?”
::There is your ten, or so, but let’s continue and finish the scene.::
“I’ll be back by then. I’m driving straight back Thursday night. Not that it matters; it’s only a three-hour drive. I need to be back for the County Fair on Friday.”
“And that is your date?” Nate asked with a tone of doubt.
“Sure, why not? It will be fun.” Suddenly Aaron wasn’t so sure.
“Does she like carnivals? Or carnival food?”
“You sure do know how to bring a guy down.”
Nate laughed, “You’re right. Sorry. I’m sure you two will have a great time.”
“Thank you.” Aaron sat behind his desk and woke his sleeping laptop. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a review to write.”
“Davies Deli?”
“Yes, I have meant to write it for weeks. Now seems like the perfect time.”
“Just don’t let your infatuation cloud your review.”
“Not at all, you know me better than that. It was the Reuben today that pushed me over the edge. Best I’ve ever had.”
“Just making sure,” Nate turned to leave the office. “Oh, by the way, the reason I stopped by. You may need to redo the Andretti piece. The big man felt it lacked perspective. He would like you to make another visit.”
“Are you kidding me?”
“I wish I were. Sorry.” Nate said, handing him his printed story back. “He highlighted a few things and made some notes.”
Aaron took them but did not read them. He placed them in his “to-do” bin.
“Boss also said for this week, to rerun the Bubba’s Ribs piece from March. He ate there on Saturday and enjoyed himself. He wanted to add it to your list, but I mentioned that you had reviewed it already. Perfect timing, I guess.”
“So, this is not a rush job then?”
“Look at it this way,” Nate said with a sly smile. “You can take Deborah.”
“Nuh-uh,” Aaron said, shaking his head. “I want a second date.”
“Okay, Romeo, do it your way. Best of luck to you. Just watch out for that tilt-a-whirl,” Nate laughed and shut the door behind him.
Aaron laughed and shook his head. Now to get to work. He turned to his screen and opened a blank page – and just stared. Lost in thought. He smiled, and for once, he could not think of a word to write.
Now we know Aaron’s surprise date. How do you feel about it? Would you enjoy an amusement park first date? Have you been on one? One of my first dates was to a County Fair and my wife and I several early outings had been to Fiesta Texas. Spent a lot of time with the fairway games, she didn’t care for the rides, although I did get her on The Rattler. This was when it was wooden, before they remodeled it and made it steel.

I find it interesting on how much Aaron grows from this book to the third. He is much more mature by the third installment. I hope I show his growth. It ‘s been so long, I don’t remember if I actually wrote him with growth or just wrote the character.

Thanks. As I mentioned to Kate, it is interesting on how much characters mature from one book to another in series. Aaron is such a stronger and more mature character by the third book.

Loved this snippet…and the added section as well. The dialogue between Aaron and Nick drew me down the page. One of my first dates with my husband was to Busch Gardens amusement park on my birthday. I loved it! And County Fairs have an ambiance all their own. I think Aaron chose wisely. Tweeted.

Glad I was not alone in first and early dates were to amusement parks. Aaron would be pleased. 🙂

I love this, Jeff! It has all the awkwardness and tingles of the start (hopefully!) of a new relationship. Very well grounded and relatable.
