Hey, Weekend Writing Warriors. Another week. I have been poked, prodded, and scanned the last couple of weeks. Not to worry, it is all part of the normalcy of my life with Neurofibromatosis and Epilepsy. Heh, and getting older. I had a brain MRI, which I haven’t had in ages to ensure my head is still there, as well as the dreaded test all males get when they reach 50. But I came up clear, so that is a blessing. My grandfather passed due to prostate cancer, my dad brain cancer. Should get results of MRI later this week.
Elissa Celebrates Christmas and Elissa Learns Thankfulness are available through Amazon!! I’m too excited to offer both books side by side for the holidays.
Thanks for your support through everything; Let’s get into this week’s adventure. Deborah is on her way to the Deli and let’s see what happens this week.
SYNOPSIS:
Aaron Stephenson loves his job. As food critic for the popular Houston Gazette, he gets to sample the best cuisine at the finest eateries in Houston without paying a dime. And because there are so many great restaurants in Houston, he doesn’t have to visit the same establishment twice… unless he wants to.
But when Aaron stops in at Davies Deli, a non-descript, off-the-beaten-path, family-owned diner, he suddenly realizes he wants to come back;
But it has to do more with the owners’ brown haired, green eyed daughter, Deborah than the delicious food.
Aaron and Deborah feel a mutual attraction. But Deborah has a secret that could change everything.
And then there is Carter…

Summary:
This love story novel was born out of a dream I had about an angel leaving nick knacks behind for a couple to find as they walked through an amusement park together. They were reminders about them being a couple because they were struggling. Them finding these ‘little reminders’ drew them back together. The novel also has a dual storyline, in that the MC also has a struggle with their relationship with God, so they are also being drawn back to Him as well. The diner idea came from my personal love for food, writing some of the book sitting in a Denny’s, and working in kitchens for almost 10 years.
Here is a bit from last week.
“Look at it this way,” Nate said with a sly smile. “You can take Deborah.”
“Nuh-uh,” Aaron said, shaking his head. “I want a second date.”
“Okay, Romeo, do it your way. Best of luck to you. Just watch out for that tilt-a-whirl,” Nate laughed and shut the door behind him.
Aaron laughed and shook his head. Now to get to work. He turned to his screen and opened a blank page – and just stared. Lost in thought. He smiled, and for once, he could not think of a word to write.
We closed out a chapter last week. As we enter this new chapter we are visiting with Deborah again. Let’s see how this goes.
Tuesday morning was just a normal morning. No vagabonds on benches across the driveway. Just her routine ride to the deli to get ready for the lunch rush. Today special would be a Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich. It was an attempt to appeal to the growing vegetarian population in Houston. But Pop did not understand that if you put a chicken in the meal, it is no longer vegan. But it’s a salad? He would justify. The thought made her laugh and almost run a red light. She slammed on the brakes and she swore.
::There is your ten, or so, but let’s continue and finish the scene.::
She was at the same light near the library as the day before. Deborah looked up at the multi-story building. She wondered if Carter was in there and what types of books he liked to read, if he could read, she thought. Immediately she felt bad. It was rude to assume a person’s ability from their appearance. For all she knew, he could hold a Ph.D. in Literature and read Plato or Socrates. The sound of a horn, again, snapped her out of her daze. And again, she proceeded through the intersection embarrassed.
Ten minutes later, she was at the deli. Deborah parked in her usual spot and shut off the engine. As part of her routine, she took a deep breath in and exhaled; in with the good, out with the bad. As she exhaled, a wave of dizziness hit her. A sudden sharp pain just behind her left eye drew her hand to her temple. It caused the world to spin, reaching her stomach. Deborah quickly opened the door and released her breakfast onto the concrete below. She sat there for a moment, coherent but shaken. The pain relented and the merry-go-round in her head slowed and let her off the ride.
Deborah sipped at her water mug and regained her composure. Afraid to attempt another deep inhale, she settled for a few shorter breaths that her doctor had taught her the last time this occurred.
Deborah thought about it for a moment. It had been nearly five weeks since her last episode. The worst part about this was the doctors were clueless as to what was wrong. Her symptoms were consistent with Epilepsy, except she was not having full-blown seizures. The medication was supposed to help, and it has, but occasionally one would slip by.
After about fifteen minutes, she felt right as rain, like it had never happened. Without thinking, she inhaled, exhaled; Okay, nothing happened. “Another day,” she finally said, completing her morning prep. She walked into the deli with no intention of telling her parents about her episode. No sense in worrying them, they had enough concerns on their shoulders. Just a few more days and Pop would have a new expediter, and she could finally get some rest.
Now we get a deeper glimpse of Deborah’s health condition. Something is not right. Perhaps another reasons she could be apprehensive about becoming involved with a man at any point.

I like ‘Pop’ and his salad argument. Made me laugh. Good on him!
Nice snippet and good to hear about the results. I hugely dislike having to have an MRI done!
