Weekend Writing Warriors – 5/1/22 – The Transference – Bag ’em and Tag ’em

Welcome back, Writing Community. It’s another weekend filled with snippets from writers we have grown fond of and cant wait to get back into week-to-week. I was heavy into work this past week and not able to make the rounds as much, sorry if I missed your snippet. I plan to do better this week as my schedule is lighter. I missed y’all.

Well, enough of the mushy stuff, here we go with a new snippet. Hope you enjoy it and the new look. Thanks again for your support.

SYNOPSIS:

Current Expanded Novel Synopsis:
Detective James “Grady” Gradiosa, is a Savannah, Georgia detective who recently transferred from Atlanta. He relocated after his wife, Elizabeth, was promoted with her real estate firm. He is placed under the charge of Lieutenant Daniel Masters, a gruff 27-year Major Crimes veteran. They are immediately handed a case that will change their lives. Grady is the first to see the abnormalities. But will the rest of the team listen in time? There is a murder on the loose in South Georgia. For some reason, the killer leaves their final victim alive just before committing suicide by cop. But why? Masters and Grady must find out before it’s too late and the killer strikes again.

SNIPPET:

— For this week’s snippet we will continue from where we left off last week.
First a bit of last week’s snippet.—

“Damn,” Branson said.

“Seems to be the phase of the day,” Nettles snickered.

Ryan stepped onto the deck, catching his breath. He held up a finger and took a deep breath, then exhaled. “There are heavy footprints heading in the direction of the pier leading from the house. He—”

“She,” both Branson and Nettles say in unison.

“Yeah,” Ryan said. “Well, whoever made those prints was running fast. They left here and went to the pier. If it was her, Thoran left on that boat.”

WE PICK UP RIGHT WHERE WE LEFT OFF:
We are jumping ahead a paragraph though. A search of the room revealed a lived-in space, where Thoran has fully healed from her wounds. and a comfort level showed she did not expect to be found.

“Have you seen any weapons?” Ryan asked.

“Not one,” LaCrosse replied, shaking his head.

“Radio it in,” Branson said.

LaCrosse stepped into the living area and informed Grady of what they had learned, when he reentered the room and began stepping on boards with the tips of his boot.

“What are you doing?” Branson asked.

“Carmen asked us to check for hidden compartments. If Tanner had hidden weapons, maybe Thoran put them back before she fled. So spread out. This would be the only room she could have hidden the guns if she didn’t take them with her.”

LaCrosse went back to toeing his area around the living space, Branson looked to his left near the fireplace, and Nettles and Ryan checked the dining area. The room was filled with an orchestra of creaking boards. When one of them didn’t creak but gave a hollow thud, two men and one lady turned toward Ryan.

“What you got,” Branson asked.

Ryan was already on his knees. He pushed the chair that was covering the board aside. The board was about six feet long and four inches wide and had a snug fit. Ryan flourished his pocket blade and pried the panel loose. The smell of fresh powder hit them before the visual evidence of a gun did.

“Well, at least we know she isn’t armed with either of them,” LaCrosse said.

“Yeah, just glad we weren’t hit with them earlier. Either would’ve done serious damage.” Branson rubbed the small of his back, remembering his tumble down the stairs.

“Yeah, ten,” LaCrosse concurred.

“Bag ‘em and tag ‘em,” Branson instructed to no one in particular.

“We found two weapons,” LaCrosse told his radio. “A rifle and a shotgun, both recently fired.
They were hidden under the floorboards. We’re sending Nettles and Ryan back on the boat to Craw-and-dads, then to you. Send a ride for us. We are not footing it back to the road. We’ll remain here and continue searching this place until our limo arrives. LaCrosse out.”

Okay, Writing Warriors. This closes out the chapter, and with that, I shall close out the snippets for the novel. We have somewhat of a good conclusion. Thoran is not armed, well that we know of, and our team is fairly unscathed. Nothing worse for wear. I thank you for following along with my snippets from The Transference. We are ten days from release. And no, I still do not have a cover for it yet. I still haven’t even gotten the final proof for it for edit. All is good though. Books are printed to order. So we can have all of this taken care of at the last minute. I just won’t have any on hand for a live signing on release day. We shall see.
