Welcome back, Weekend Writing Warriors. I hope you enjoyed last weeks entry of my Dystopian Suspense novel The Five Barred Gate. This novel is set in a world where it is illegal to be offensive. There are federal laws against saying certain things, especially against those in authority. To violate the law brings legal consequences.
Synopsis:
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Non-Offensive Movement in the United States became federal law? What would happen to the freedoms guaranteed to us through the Constitution? This is the story of Jacob Andrews. He is faced with the decision to follow his heart and disregard what the law says about how he should live; even if it means his life.
Here is were we left things last week. Jacob is arriving at Roger and Jessica Mills Auto shop, anticipating a meeting, when he hears a voice from behind him…
“So, are you admiring my classic, Jacob?”
Jacob recognized the voice instantly, and he was almost too nervous to turn around. — When he did, he saw a short, stock man with a wide grin an unexpected lack of hair. He was older than Jacob expected, but then again, he wasn’t sure what to expect.
“Eric?”
“Well, if I’m not I’m about to drive away in his sweet ride.”
Eric opened his arms and pulled Jacob into a bear hug. “It’s good to finally see you, Jacob. Really good.”
“You look better than I expected,” Jacob said, “considering my recent experience.” He looked Eric up and down, surprised at his apparently whole and healthy appearance. It seemed they didn’t touch him at all.

Interesting. You’ve got me wondering what Eric has been through that Jacob thought he looked good, considering.

I’m wondering if there’s some major religious persecution going on that Jacob thinks Eric would have gotten beaten up or something. At least, that’s where my mind went from his thought that Eric looks healthy and whole. Intriguing snippet!
